The Value of Provenance & an Omega Watch

A very interesting quote regarding the recent sale of President Kennedy’s Inauguration Watch. In brief without the history the watch is worth $1000, just shows the value of keeping everything with your watch. If you track prices you will see that “papers” add a significant chunk of value to the sales price, the simple rule is to keep everything!

A watch’s provenance can add significantly to its value, says Ed Faber, president of New York’s Aaron Faber Gallery. He notes the recent sale of an Omega watch that John F. Kennedy wore at his 1961 inauguration for $420,000 US. Without the history that came with it, the watch itself was probably worth $1,000, Faber estimates

I was thinking about purchasing this watch at auction but have no idea what it is, what it is worth or the year. It is quartz, and appraisal papers state a value of $700.00. I have look at similar watches on line that bring nothing near that amount. I would like to know what I am buying and not overpay.
