Cry Freedom
Been a long time huh?
Back after a long hiatus [got two years but time off for good behavior, possession of an offensive wife if you must know], let me find my Omega feet and we will be back firing on all cylinders.
In the meantime a small lesson, people will fake anything. Take a look at this Ricki, for the poor unfortunate souls that are not English that means fake, Ricki = Rikki Lake = Fake.

You can email me your resonse or just post under this one…Your help is appreciated.

Welkcome back Omega Blogger!
I have seen fakes similair to this one. Most of the time from people that ‘know’ someone who inheritted this Omega Seamaster. I never know if they really don’t know that it is a fake watch (and I have to tell them the bad news) or that they are just trying…

Why do you say it is a fake? How can you tell if it is authentic?

Welcome back…
the fake looks like a redialed Wittenauer.

does the “seamaster” writing change over time? I seem to be seeing different
style of writing seamaster depending on the different watches I see..
Mine is a 62 seamaster, and the s is sharply pointed up at the bottom,
making the s look like a seaHorse. BUT on a website, I saw a seamaster with
that pointed upturn on the s but the E was different. My e has a starting
cursive line pointing to the center of the bottom bend od the s, and this
other watch had the starting line higher up on the s, and yet others didn’t
seem to have a cursive starting line.
What is the deal? Do I have a fake?
Thank you,

It’s not the Omega logo, it’s not the Speedmaster logo and it’s not the omega typeface.
I’m a type and brand nerd

L, you are ignorant. Don’t spend your life taking offense to every little innocuous comment. It is unimportant in the grand scheme of things, so get over it and get a life.
(and no, I am not English either)

I have exact similar watch. Case is marked “gold plated 10 microns”. Back is marked with 18K and Omega-logos, also movement is signed as Omega. It’s fake, movement is A. Schield cal 1130 17 jewels and sub-seconds. Dial is hand-made redial and back plate is not gold but bronze.

Is there a genuine Omega that looks like this one? I have a watch I inherited which is laid out similar, but MUCH higher quality than that!

To Billy Mac and others- you can tell it is fake after looking at numerous examples of genuine Omegas- it takes time/experience but eventually you can tell they are fakes even from a distance or in fuzzy auction photos. Also, the movements (if shown) are a dead giveaway if they are fake- it just too hard for the counterfeiters to replicate movements. The watch pictured above is a typical rip-off of a Seamaster manual winding watch. These pieces of c**p usually use an AS 1130 movement like Mika says. Sad thing is, this AS movement is the descendant of the “wehrmacht” movements used in highly collectible WW2 German army watches. Such a waste to be using them in these frauds….

I’m still in the process of learning to be able to spot an original or a fake. I’ve been told that you can tell by the way that the watch moves. If the second hand seems to run funny, it may be questionable. Also depending on what year the watch suppose to of been released, most of the watches were made with 14 karat gold. In 1933 to 1974, the United States weren’t allowed to have any gold more than 14 karats to prevent hoarding precious metals.

I have this omega for sale on eBay - any idea of it’s name & what it’s worth? The bidding is n/r. It’s a manual wind Geneve, I think, but haven’t been able to place it.

Hello,
My grandfather gave me an old Omega watch which is similar to the one on the picture above. The difference is, mine is stainless steel and it has a black face. The bracelet is stainless steel with the Omega logo and some numbers. How would I know if this is real or not? If this is real, I would like to have it restored, but I don’t want to go to an Omega store only to find out its not real.
