My Seamaster Cosmic – Falling in Love Again
I hate to say it but me and the Cosmic haven’t been getting along that well lately. I can trace it back to the time I fitted an original Omega Black leather watch strap, nice but…..well boring.
So today in dropped a very cheap strap with a little more of a racey feel to it, on the Cosmic it went and I haven’t had it off since [boom boom!].
Just can’t get Je t’aime out my mind…..

Lots of pictures of the loved one…….

Wow. I have one very similar to that, my father’s from 1969. Solid back?

Yes, solid back.
I don’t know what it is about those seamaster cosmic’s but I just love the style. Its a watch that looks much better on the wrist than off.
Your father had great taste BTW.

Funny, I just ran across this blog yesterday, especially weird since I just received my latest Omega — a Seamaster Cosmic, EXACTLY like yours (135.017, ebay #5012533446). I put a Hirsch Duke dark brown (almost black-but with a rich color and texture) and it rocks. It’s a very sharp, understated watch. I might try to find a decent bracelet for it — I think it might look good on one. What do you think?
July 21st, 2005 at 12:37 pm
Great looking watch azbigfella.
>bracelet
You know I’ve never even thought of dropping a nice bracelet on one. As a rule I tend to be a leather strap guy mainly because I work with a computer on a glass desk all day, the clang clang of the bracelets puts the other guys off!

HI , I GOT MY FATHER OMEGA SEAMASTER COSMIC.WATERPROFF.
166022-TOOL1050
WHERE CAN I GET AN IDEA OF YEAR OF PRODUCTION, AND VALUE? IT IS A BEAUTIFUL GOLD PLATTED WATCH WITH A BROWN LEATHER BEKT, AND I THINK IT SUITS A WOMAN MORE THAN A MAN NOW DAYS …
October 15th, 2005 at 8:03 am
For a firmer production year you really need the movement serial number, that type of watch though is hard to get at, you have to go through the front to get at the movement!
Mid-sixties is near enough anyhow.
Value is hard to say, they are not that sought after, I would estimate $300-500.

Howdy, I just inherited my fathers seamaster cosmic. I am trying to locate
a stainless steel case as the gold plated one is severely pitted on the back,
the crystal is also funky and I would like to find a dial to match the stainless.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Tom

Mine’s a stainless steel Seamaster Cosmic day date with a box-snap bracelet. Like yours it’s the backless monocase model with ‘TOOL 107′ inscribed on the back. I just love it, the shape, the looks, the practicality, the subtlelty of the bracelet…everything. It’s circa 1971 vintage, it’s cost when new was around £80 to £100 and it’s got the 752 calibre movement. I simply love it and there’s nothing to match it!
June 10th, 2006 at 7:49 pm
Hello, Got a gold plated one just like yours with a silver dial. Used to have one with a black dial, but I had to sell it on eBay to fund my latest love, the full size PO. The cosmic is a nice watch, I have mine on a black hirsch strap, similar to the one pictured. Anyone here like the cosmic 2000s?
January 7th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
I have a Seamaster Cosmic in steel casing
(136017SP – TOOL 107)
I got it as a present in the spring of 1970 –
Shure was a proud boy wearing an astronauts watch at school!

I just got my father’s early-60es 18k gold seamaster cosmic for christmas. he wore it on his wedding, wich was in 63. I put a hirsch heavy calf darkbrown leather strap with white seam and a golden clasp on it, and it is absolutely stunning.
all the entries above reflect my opinion on this timeless piece of art.

I’m impressed. I’m currently awaiting delivery of a Seamaster Cosmic, it’s a manual wind model. Does anybody know how to manage such a watch? Do I wind it up each morning turning the crown a set number of times?
I’ve no idea, can anybody help?
April 27th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Keith, just wind it until it stops–don’t force it! Do it once a day and you’ll be fine. Do it gently and you won’t have any problems. Good luck–

I am awaiting the arrival of my Seamaster Cosmic. I’ve always wanted an Omega Seamaster and I finally took the plunge and bought the perfect one. So I hope. I got it on ebay. I want to be convinced that it is genuine. As soon as I saw the pictures I fell in love with it. Any ideas?
Case # 136.016
Cal. # 601
I think the dial has been refinished because it is blue. But I am okay with that (it adds to it’s appeal). I just want to know if it’s authentic. Can anyone help me?
p.s., even if it’s not genuine, I still think the Omega Seamaster Cosmic’s are the best looking watches out there.
Thanks

Its not really in the best shape as I would need the face to be replaced.

I inherited my grandfather’s Seamaster Cosmic (Date) in 1990 and it worked a treat for 7 years, finally giving up the ghost in 1997. Since then it sat strapless in my wallsafe until I got it repaired last month. £200 for a new crystal and full service by Omega. Just ordered a contemporary stainless Omega bracelet (watch was new in 1970) from ebay and am totally chuffed to have it back to original working condition.

I love your stap on this watch! I have a Meister Seamaster Cosmic that my Mom bought my Grandfather in the 1960’s….Serial # 135017-TOOL-107. My wife had it cleaned and repaird but the cyrstal that was put on does not quite fit and the band is a cheaper metal band.
I’d love some info on how I can get the cyrstal replaced with a nice (preferably saphire) crystal that sits flush. Also I’d love to get a band like you have on the one pictured here. Any ideas would be great!

Hi Omegablogger!
Beautiful cosmic btw. I have just received a 1960 mechanical seamaster
(reference number 14384 4 SC
movement serial 17.742.XXX )
for Christmas but the strap is the cheapest piece of rubbish I have ever seen. Can you recommend a nice leather strap to go with the watch?
Cheers and Happy New Year!

Someone was asking if a Seamaster Cosmic (w date) was available in solid gold.

I would be over the moon with an aproximate value, just want to see if my investment has paid off, i love the watch all the same. Perfect working condition with origional strap. My wedding day gift to myself, its so feminine.

After travelng half way around the world and coming to Australia, my wife bought me an Omega Seamaster Cosmic ‘166026′ tool 107, as my first wedding anniversay gift in 1973. I ha staood the test of time, but started to fail about ten years ago. I was quoted over $500AU to refurbish so it was relegated to the jewlery box and replaced with a lessor brand. Behold, now in my later years I would like to refurbish it and pass it on to one of my grandchildren. any idea’s of it’s worth and cost to refurbish ?
Regards
David
