Omega Planet Ocean Review

From the brilliantly legible dial to the curved, brushed case-edges, to the chunky solid back with its embossed and polished seahorse motif (enlarged now to fill the entire flat bottom surface of the caseback), this is one handsome timepiece.

Planet Ocean Orange Leather Strap?
Anyone know an easy way of getting one of these? Have the 42.5 orange watch and bracelet (very easy to wear, given the weight of the watch and bracelet), but am trying to buy the matching strap.
My dealer tells me that, having spoken to Omega, they say there is a problem with present run of straps (something about their not being water resistant) and that these are being recalled. Will be as long as 6 months before they are available. This sounds fantastic to me (in the true sense) – anyone have any information on this?
Regards
Mark

>as long as 6 months
Those Omega orange straps are very nice and 6 hours is too long to wait when you have the hots for a strap!
I’ll pop in an see my AD in the morning, see if he can throw any light on it. I assume you are in the UK, hence the London?
January 19th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
Its available here, if you want I can send you by fedex or UPs . I also bought one Planet Ocean but with steel bracelet. I like the watch, its nice.

I just bought a new omega planet ocean 45.5mm with black rubber strap. Great looking watch, but I can’t get the damn thing to keep running. Today, I wound it up until my finger almost bled and wore it all day. Around 8:00pm tonight I noticed that the @#@#@# had stopped again about an hour earlier. Anybody know what I’m doing wrong or if this is a problem with the watch. Too much money to spend on a dead timepiece. So much for going 2000 feet under!
August 22nd, 2006 at 3:15 pm
i’ve got the planet ocean with the orange leather strap but it stained pretty bad when it came in contact with some sunscreen lotion accidentally. any idea on what a new strap runs? do i contact the place i bought it from? could it be part of the recall previously mentioned? any info would be appreciated!
thanks – jim in the USA

Mr Doyal,
Maybe you should have checked with your wife before you bought that piece of #@#@$@$@##!
February 11th, 2007 at 10:31 am
Doyal, WTF, you don’t wind an automatic much if ever (and only then very slowly), are you thick?
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:53 am
I have just purchased a PO XL.
The bazel is wobbeling in its place about a millimieter – is this natural?
Also, the picture of the seamaster on the back is not straight and is pointing to the side – does this mean that the watch was opened before I purchased it?
May 12th, 2007 at 1:29 am
I bought my ocean planet big size in jan2007..bezel fine until 3weks ago, got looser.= wobbles a bit, but not 1mm.It now doesn’t stand much ‘brushing against’ before it moves out of place.Q: IS THIS NORMAL?My watch has a little red dot on the back which is like a seal to tell if the watch has been opened..see if yours has the same..I’ve contacted Omega re the bezel..(today) and am awaiting a reply..
May 25th, 2007 at 12:58 am
Thanks Kojo. I’d like to hear what Omega have to say regarding the bezel. There is no red dot on the back of my watch – where excatly is this located?
June 15th, 2007 at 5:32 am
red dot is on the back just below the AN (in PLANET OCEAN).It is a seal to check the watch hasn’t been opened..Omega got back in touch and told me to give the watch to a dealer/jeweller to assess the situation..I did this and the jeweller said the bezel is fine and he won’t touch the watck,(looks like I might have to try altering it myself, as compared to other divers watches I have the bezel is too loose to be trusted.
June 17th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Thanks. No red dot on mine …
June 21st, 2007 at 10:24 am
I am very intertested in a Planet Watch and have looked at local stores that carry the Omega. Have also looked on the NET but am very concerned about a fake. Is there anyway to tell the difference or should we just pay the extra money and get from authorized dealer. Any comments would ber greatly appreciated. Thank you.
July 30th, 2007 at 11:29 am
To reply to a couple of posts. My Planet Ocean does have a small red dot on the back of the case but it is located between the E and A of Seamaster.
Also, I have only had my watch just over a week and it too stopped running. The owners manual does sate to wind the watch eveery 2 weeks even when wearing it. Anyone ever have a problem with the crown leaking since it is not a screw down crown? My other watches have screw down crowns – just makes me feel more secure I guess.
August 14th, 2007 at 1:32 am
My Planet Ocean has a red dot on the back also, approximately at the 12 oClock position. The bezel isn’t at all loose or wobbly, so maybe there were a few production issues with certain batches ?
I’m actually on my 2nd watch now, as I returned the first one due to it gaining 6.8 seconds a day – not too good for a chronometer !
I’ve now had the 2nd one for just over 2 weeks and have noted that this one is gaining 7.1 seconds a day !!
Has anyone else noticed extremely poor time keeping ?
How can this be ?
I’m confused and disapointed.
August 17th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Thanks, I found the red dot. I have had my PO for almost 5 months now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Extremely fine timepiece.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
Yes to the time inaccuracy. But mine loses about 5 seconds a day.
In addition (and shockingly) the thing leaked when I took it snorkelling. This happend in Thailand and I had the whole thing re-built there at the official dealership place. Only since then it has been losing time.
I’ll have it sent for maintenance again. Seems to be a few flaws with the new design, but presuably someone has a planet ocean that works as advertised???
September 2nd, 2007 at 9:34 pm
I have had my PO for over a year- July 06- at jeweler, it was wound, lasted for a year…then it stopped when not in use.
Straps, I have the metal wrist band, can I inter change with rubber and or leather?
Thanks,
Etrev

I don’t know what some of you guys are up too??
MY PO has been and still is deadly accurate for the last year.
It does not leak and the bezel is rock solid…
Who said it does not have a screw down crown!!?? both the He valve and the main crown screw down.
This is an excellant watch, comparable to the Sea dweller and In my opinion better than the Sub, especially given the retail value.
One final thought, I suspect Micky Mouse has supplied a few of the above pieces…

Yes to straps, you can interchange. Buy a new PO with bracelet as to buy it after is costly, the rubber is far cheaper, although still more than most will spend on a watch, get the deployment clasp for a top setup.
Remember the PO carries a three warrenty…

I think your right mate some of the comments bring me to believe that some of the people here have indeed brought copies. I got my PO from a dealer in bedfordshire Gatstones jewellers of Hitchin thay have a gorgeous collection.
shop has been there over 200 years and now is still run by 2 sisters lovely servie with a great watchmaker
The polorised chrystal is amazing and gives the watch a an unusal but pleasant look.

Just a little more of a tit bit for the PO appreciation fan club
You may have not been told by your jeweller that when resetting the (very easy to use) divers extension when you look closely at the pivot joint it resembles a very subtle hook when resetting clasp to closed position simply fold back and it neatly tucks behind main escapement. thus not pinging out when ever you remove from wrist.
Oh and for those of us that still think the antireflect polorised chrystal on inside and out wears away after prolonged use there is a simple way to remove from the outer surface when it becomes tainted.
Go and buy a new one after you sell your PO for exactly what you paid for it. but beware the George Danials movement is a living engine powered by you. you breathe it breathes mine is very tollerant of the everyday rigours of being an engineer I gain approx 1.5 sec over a 24 hr period. It lives as i do on the edge not in a safe.
If you want to put yours to the test join me over christmas and the new year, you can find me at the coral strand pool bar Beau Vallon Mahe Seychelles Dec 15th to Jan 14th. most afternoons
Cellebre Sesel (celebrate Seychelles) and lets put the subs to the test.

I recently bought the PO 45.5mm with the black rubber strap. After 3 months, one of the knobs that holds the first loop in place tore. Has anyone else had any problems with the rubber strap?
I am considering on getting the black strap with orange stitching. Any ideas on a cost?

Do yourdelf a favour and get the SS deployment bracelet
I know it adds weight but pop to your local Omega dealer and try it on its very comfortable and heavy after all is synonomous with reliability.
Not sure on cost of after market bracelet but have seen a couple on e bay but would not risk it.

How adjustable is the leather strap? I have a probably less-than-average width wrist – took a link or two out of my Tag wristband – will I get a good fit?
thanks in advance for replies…
October 26th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
i hav a PO steel strap orange numbers i love it but always buy from an omega agent, 2 many fakes about that are really hard to spot, some of the above are defo fakes as performance is the best indication of a real omega.
October 30th, 2007 at 7:06 am
It sounds to me like some of y’all got robbed. I have the PO 45.5 and accuracy is spot on. If you dont have a screw down crown,… then you dont have a PO. SEAMASTER LOGOS ARE ALWAYS CROOKED. That makes me mad. Some of you folks shoud really do a little research before plunking down thousands on what sounds like some pretty cheesy fakes.

Hi folks,
do you know how much would it cost to replace a 45,5 mm bezel?
I have a PO and I had minor scratches on the bezel ;
do you know How can I reduce them?
thank you

Hi there, recently purchased a PO on e-bay. 45.5mm, black face, metal band. Curiously enough the serial number is 9 DIGITS!! Is this a fake? I thought most Omegas have 8 DIGITS? Please advise.
Thanks,

Omega Canada charges CA$ 220 for a new bezel (if memory serves).
I’m getting the 42mm PO (the 45 was too big!), anybody know is it a 20mm strap/bracelet?
Thanks

Hi guys,
Can I first thank and congratulate you all for your fantastically helpful blogs, your questions and answers have been very informative!
I’m thinking of buying a black 42mm PO but I’m unsure about which bracelet to go for, the steel or the rubber….
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about their experience with theirs?
Cheers,
Joe

Just bought the 45mm PO and the stainless steel bracelet is the best. Its the nicer fit. If you are tempted to own the rubber one as well best get the steel one with the watch (as they are over 300UKP) and get a rubber one later (only 80UKP). Some on ebay as well.

I listed my first entry here on this blog in July 30 2007 after just getting my PO. I was the one mistaken about the crown. I realized right after my entry that my PO does in fact have a screw down crown. I also have learned to live with my PO everyday. When i first got it I was afraid to wear it daily … it was like it was a fragile new baby or something. I have since gotten over that and wear it daily. I have gotten used to the size and the weight … I can honestly say i love this watch and it has not been tempermental at all since i began to wear it daily. It may be gaining a little time but so little I hardly notice. I just recall moving it back a little more than an hour when we changed for daylight savings time this fall. I also don’t think that my bezel has moved unintentionally since I have had the watch (4 months now). Kepp up with the great comments, ideas, and suggestions. I wish I could find myself in the Seychells for a month this winter like one of the previous bloggers!!!!

Just bought the 45mm PO and I am completely in love. It is also my first expensive watch and I also afraid to wear it daily. Having said that I am sure I will get over that soon enough. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

Dear Giles,
I’ve lved in Hitchin, Herts., UK, for the first 18.5 years of my life and think that the jeweller you referred to is actually called GATWARDS! They are well established and very well respected dealers.
I recently purchased an Omega Seamaster Professional Co-axial Chronometer Planet Ocean (model number: 2210.50.00) which has the excellent stainless steel bracelet and superbly engineered folding clasp.
My timepiece is synchronised to the second against the DAB radio time signal and does not appear to gain a second over an entire day. It does, however, run out of power and stop if not worn for a couple of days.
I purchased mine from Ernest Jones, Oxford Street, London (not the ostentatious branch opposite Selfridges but the branch further down the street towards New Oxford Street). I was able to negotiate a 10% discount from the asking price (I was also purchasing a ladies Tag Heuer as a gift).
Incidentally, my dealer demonstrated how to revive this exquisite timepiece from itps slumber. This was, quite simply, to unscrew the crown, pull out to the second outermost position, adjust date to previous days’ date by rotating crown backwards, pull out crown to outermost position and adjust time (clockwise) until date advancess to correct date; set the time to current time and then push in crown until it is in the first extended position (note this is the position achieved by its spring-loaded mechanism upon unscrewing the crown); then, using index finger and thumb, wind the mechanism with 10 winds away from oneself (clockwise motion if crown viewed head on); then push in crown and screw down. I tend to zero the chronometer’s second dial also and then actuate the mechanism according to the DAB radio signal’s advancement to the next minute. A fantastic timepiece such as this ought to be set precisely.
It still looks as good as new and draws envious glances from colleagues. I especially enjoy wearing in fine weather since I may then wear short-sleeved shirts and proudly display it on my wrist.

Andrew,
Thank you so much with your direction to powering the watch. I wear my PO occasionally and I was a quite panic when the watch didn’t move even after a few shaking.
Mine is 42mm black dial and brown leather strap. It is a fantastic watch, but it’s too dressy. I am eyeing for Oris Frank Sinatra edition daily use and keep my PO for weekend.
Cheers,
J

About to travel to the Bahamas for Xmas and intend to buy a PO, will be 42mm steel with orange figures but not sure which bezel to hit on – black or tango?
I have an Omegamatic 1998 which is fantastic and rare, and for dress occasions I have a solid gold (18kwatch/9k strap) Seamaster from about 1961, originally bought by my father and given to his father. The recipient, my grandfather was so inactive that the watch would not run. I wre it as I travelled with my job around the world until I dropped it in Egypt and something went ‘out’ required a repair by Omega-it was at that point I bought the O-matic.
I hope my decision to buy a PO is a wise one!!

Just got a new PO with the black bezel from my wife. I’m very lucky to have such a an exquisite watch even luckier to have an even more beautiful wife…great advice on powering the the PO.. as of today I have not lost a second.

Regarding the Planet Ocean Chronograph, why is it retailing higher than the Seamaster 300 Chrono Diver with the Co-Axial movement? Is there anything inherently better about the Planet Ocean Chronograph in comparison to the standard Seamaster 300 Chrono Diver? Presently have the Speedmaster 3513.50 and looking for another.

I’m looking to buy my first Swiss watch and it’s got to be the Planet Ocean! I know they come in two sizes and I’m definately the 42mm.
I have a 6.5″ wrist. Is the 42mm still too large…? I don’t want it looking like I’v got Big Ben strapped to my arm!
Any of youre thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I want to purchase Omega PO and I will do it in a couple of months time. I’ve been regular visitor on every web site about Omega watches for the last three months and learned a lot about PO chronometer.
Also many thanks to all comments on this site which explain and help a lot in final decision. In my country there is no Omega official dealer so I have to rely on outside sources I have.
Just qiuck overview on comments about time inaccuracy of PO. Original PO are certified chronometer which means this model is C.O.S.C. (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) rated. It means that this watch has avearge daily rate -4/+6sec per day. Machanical watch is never 100% accurate and lot of his performace depends on owner activities. Also as I learned every Omega PO can be adjusted by official Omega serviceman to owner profile so the gains and losses could be only -1/+1,5 sec per day. But in final, in normal circumstances of exploatation time difference should be in above metioned borders.
Best regards and keep coming with comments.

Hi guys. I have a new Omega PO 2201.51 on order from thre famous Ad in DC. This will be my second Omega this year and hopefully not my last. I hope I get to enjoy my new PO like you guys.

Bob,
The sub mariner is smaller that the smallest PO, would that not look a tad dorky and girly….? Sub’s are far too common and ordinary. PO in black all the way!!!
February 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
dylan, i want to buy a planet ocean, 42mm, and my wrist size is also around 6.5 inches, it looks slightly over size but i think that is the fashion right now, chunky is cool?
My main concern is the weight, will i get used to it or will become a irration, some say you forget it is on your wrist, but once purchesed will be too late if it’s a mistake.
Don’t really know what else to buy, Breitling Colt is not in the same league as a planet ocean, in terms of craftsmanship, and i’m not a Rolex person, so perhaps i have to take a chance with the weight.
Anyone heard anything about the new 300 Seamaster co-axial this year?
February 14th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Jerome,
I understand what you mean about the weight, I had the same concern initially. Take some advice from Boris the bullet dodger, “heavy is good, heavy is reliable.” [Snatch]
But seriously, you really do get used to the weight and when you try on any other watch your realise how flimsy they are! I got mine fitted snug to reduce movement so it feels as one, and I dont even notice the size any more, only how small other watches are when you try them on.
Like yourself I loathe Rolex’s, so generic! The PO is a beautiful watch, the broad arrow hands, strip numbering and sharp bezel are a great balance. For me, the styling of the PO surpasses that of the 300 Seamaster co-axial. Omega seem to have adapted past classic features and given them a contemporary twist with the PO. Almost a modern day classic.
Guess we’ll see about that one. Ha!
Hope this helps.

I Bought a 45.5mm PO with 22mm Rubber strap August 07 and i’ve replaced both of the strap bands twice because they have ripped !!! Lucky Omega replaced them FOC as a Good will gesture the first time , i had to buy them the next time but they only cost £7 each ! As for time keeping it’s spot on and would Highly reccomend this Time piece !!!

Ive owned my PO 42mm in orange for 10 months now and wear it 24/7 it still looks box fresh I still cant stop looking at it. If your thinking of getting one DO IT TODAY you wont be disapointed. If you cant decide between the 42 or 45.5 then get BOTH one in orange and the other black job done!
March 17th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Does anyone know the temperature ranges of the PO….?
I’m off to the Arctic and want to know if its safe. I expect it is but better to be safe than sorry!
Also, are they safe against magnetic fields…. Loud speakers, radio alarms, cashiers desks etc….?
Cheers,
Dylan

Harking back to a few posts last year, my PO has stopped yet again. The first few times within a month of purchase (from Torneau in Boston USA) was ‘explained’ by the girl in local Omega agent (Goldsmiths) as a ‘running in’ factor. Now after another 3 months, it went erratic for a day and has now stopped altogether. It’s going back to Omega tomorrow. It also does seem to gain quite a bit – around 10 seconds a day which is quite a bit for a £1850 chronometer (although it is within Omega’s admitted accuracy of
-1/+11 secs per day). Hopefully when it’s in to be fixed, they can adjust the movement. It’s a beautiful watch and maybe just bad luck, but having had similar problems with a Seamaster (quartz), my faith in the brand is waning a little!

Hi guys,
Im looking to get a black 42mm PO. Im thinking of getting it from the airport at an authorised dealer, Beaverbrooks for example, as its £400 cheaper.
Does anyone know whether the PO stocked at airports are older (early 2000 models which may have inaccuracies) stock which has not been shifted…?
Has anyone purchaced a watch from an airport and had any problems with it…?
And is the warranty still valid as usual…?
Any comments and advice would be great.

Own several high-end watches. ALWAYS buy from a Genuine Authorized Dealer. As far as the Planet Ocean 45.5mm. A wonderful piece, if real – should be flawless and tight. Automatic watches (Rolex, Breitling, Omega) are NOT known for flawless time keeping but if you are concerned about 1-3 seconds a day – (1) Buy a Quartz. (2) Get a life.
Automatics are just wonderful pieces of workmanship and you don’t have to worry about a Mall Monkey changing your battery.
As far as size, my Breitling Crosswinds Special is 43.7 mm in size, 15.3 mm thick and approx 30g heavier than a 45.5mm PO. I personally would not go smaller and my wrist is 6.75″.
Great watches are a passion. I love Breitlings and Omegas, not a Big Rolex guy.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Just ordered my PO 45.5 today. Black bezel, SS wristband. I cannot wait til it gets here. This is my first high-end watch. I like the classic look, and the engineering behind this great time peace.
July 5th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Anyone with complaints about this watch got ripped off. YOU BOUGHT A FAKE!!! Only purchase from an authorized dealer. Expect to pay at least $3000 U.S. for a bargan 42mm. Omega does not have any authorized dealers online and no authorized dealer can take a phone order and ship it too you. Only in store pickup.

Just got a PO. Just wonder how you adjust the date only without having to wind and wind the crown until you hit the right date.
Also, how often do you wind this thing ? I only wear it on weekends. don’t like those watches that stop if you don’t wear them. please adivse. thanks
July 19th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
sam
as for winding you either have to buy a watch winder which is like a cradle that rotates keeping the watch wound or wear it all the time.
and for the date when you unscrew the crown pull it out one click and wind to adjust date.
July 20th, 2008 at 4:56 am
hi sam
take a look at andrew o’s comment on how to set the date and time half way up the page.and you can get a watch winder off ebay .

Hi Guys,
all of you that are lucky enough to own a PO should wear them every day, I own a Tag ( battery) breitling colt (auto) and omega seamaster (auto). worn daily they should run and run, failing that, if you have spent nearly 2 grand on a watch, at least spend £40 on a watch winder, from ebay, keeps your watch going perfectly, ready to wear when you are !

Anyone have any good suggestions on fitting the watch? Originally had two full + a half link taken out. Went back and had the half link put back.
Frustrating that I can’t get a comfortable fit. With the half link back in it just moves around way too much and with it in, it sticks.

I must be one of those who needs to get a life, worrying about 3 seconds per day. The mechanical watch especialy an automatic with C.O.S.C. status is a micro engineering work of art, while luck can play a part, most of these can be regulated to a much higher level of accuracy than 3 seconds per day.
The key to it is to wear the watch daily and observe any error, if the daily rate is consistantly out by the same amount to within 1 second per day then you have a watch that well deserves the title of Chronometer. Now experiment with different resting positions overnight, you may find the rating certificate handy, the chances are you will be able to find a simple routine that keeps the watch to perfect time. If not, make a note of the error over 10 days, thus enabling easy calculation of the mean daily error, then have a qualified watchmaker make the required adjustment.
I own several watches in this class some more expensive than my Planet Ocean 42MM, but the planet ocean is by far the best natural time keeper, after the kind of study then adjustment described the watch gains just 1 second every 6 days, which is then corrected by resting the watch crown up overnight as opposed to laying it down, result only need to unscrew crown at the end of a short month to correct the date and obviously to switch to and from daylight saving time.
This is actually better than Quartz Timing which tends to drift albeit very slightly, but uncontrolably away from standard time.
So if like me you are obsessed with accuracy, you need to get a life but not Quartz Watch.

Guys, This is a great source of information from owners. I bought a PO a couple of weeks ago. Didn’t set out to – I wanted a SMP, but the Duty Free didn’t have one, and so I went with this one. Now I am finding out, this was a happy (though expensive) acident. Love mine. It is absolutely spot-on – so far – for timekeeping, and the stainless-steel breaclet is the nicest I have ever seen. This is my first (and likely last) expensive watch. So far, so good.

This is a very cool blog and am proud to post my comments here, and hopefully some insight.
Some background I was once a gemstone buyer and am currently a professional government logistics consultant. But sometimes am a contributing factor to Watch magazines. I have many friends that not only collect fine time pieces, but also that are reps for watch companies and work in R and D and production /assembly of fine watches this includes Richmont, Swatch Group, and Rolex. I have worked very hard for my passion and am very lucky to carry a collection of over 40 and growing high end watches that range on the highest level Patek to the lowest Longines.
-First Rolex is a great company ( I have 6) but as far as quality just hold an Omega and a Rolex at the same time and common sense will till Omega is a bit better in quality. Rolex however is a better company.
-Second please realize Omega is the flagship of the swatch group. They own ETA and Vajoux movement companies. As much as 80% of great watches have these movements in them modified to fit their case. In fact when Swatch announced they would no longer make movements available to other companies, the Swiss government intervened and did not allow it. Unlike their Competition Omega movements are meant to be in Omega cases. The companies size (biggest in the world) allows it to spend huge amounts of money on R and D as well as field trials and they do not place a time limit on case making they are done only when perfect.
- Third Omega is the Patek Phillip of sport watches but being a full producer allows mass production, more volume, and lower price. Because of this all real first hand Omegas are perfect, always. They seldom get credit for their achievements because they are disliked due to their rough business practices.
- Those of you whom are having extreme problems and irregularities with your watch, I am sorry but you have been taken advantage of and have one of 3 problems, and yes they are common.
-It’s a fake
-It is real but some parts have been stolen and replaced with generics
– It is used and was not repaired by the omega network
All COSC Omega’s all surpass chronometer certification and are very tightly put together. Our solutions return it if possible and don’t ever buy at that store again. Also never buy at a Tourneau store. Yes we are aware of their pedigree but trust me don’t. One day they will get caught. If you can’t return it contact Omega at the company headquarters omegachannels. Don’t accept repairs from that dealer as a solution. Fake Omegas can be easily proven by a professional but a real watch with some fake parts is almost impossible to prove. And yes it happens a lot. And no the red dot will not necessarily save you.
The person that wanted to change the links: You need a watch holder, a pin remover, and a special watch hammer online $20 dollars. Find the arrows on the band they point to in so out is the opposite direction uses the equipment take the link out and rejoin by following the arrow. PS make sure the sleeve is in the middle link. Yes it is difficult, the link is very solid, also if you have used the watch often the links stretch and may have to be broken to release so have extras they run 5 USD a piece.
Thank you it was a pleasure and if you like me comment than more to come and if no then thanks for reading

Dave Watch Fan
Dave great comment and on the money and especially true if you engage in a strange erratic activity A movement is a living thing and it is made to be individually tailored so keeping a log for about a month and then having a watch maker adjust the gain is the best. It sounds like a lot of work but once you do it, it will be super accurate for many years. My SMP has worked perfect without servicing for 9 years. My P O is to new but should last even longer. Please remember P O is Omegas pride and joy, great comment

David Hackett
IF your P O was produced in 2008 it is the security marker, PS the best production year was 2006 it was triple tested that year due to strategic give away’s to powerful people due to Bond promotions. Unfortunately we have to buy ours
December 3rd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
To all that are considering a purchase,
buy your watch ASAP the Hayke family has instituted a policy to have Omegas cost the same as comparable Rolex’s so look for a steady increase and less availability in the future

Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy the PO Chronograph with the steel bracelet. But I don’t like the rubber strap that goes with the PO Chrono (black with white stitching) – does anyone know if any other Omega rubber straps fit the PO chrono (like the PO big size rubber strap, which is really nice).
Thanks,
mat

Hi Guys,
I bought a PO 22m a week ago, the watch looks great. I was concerned about time keeping accuracy but is seems to be normal.
Could anyone tell me what is the manufacturers position of the case back, on my it says Seamster right below the crown.
Great bolg..
Thanks in advance
December 19th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I’ve read many comments about accuracy but have not seen anyone say how to test the accuracy. Is there a website I can sync my watch to and see what the deviation may be?
Many thanks
December 22nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Go to NIST.gov and hit time – this puts you into the atomic clock.
Problem: wear watch 24×7 so it should be fully wound. This weekend skiing in -10 the watch would advance 10 sec then studer for 3-4 sec. and then move forward again. I think it was temp. gradient from warm wrist to cold. Would also stop. Get it warm and keeps perfect time -3 sec day.

Why is Tourneau store such a bad to purchase a PO from?
January 1st, 2009 at 5:35 am
NORG, You said : Also never buy at a Tourneau store. Yes we are aware of their pedigree but trust me don’t. One day they will get caught.
Why should I not buy from them?

Hello, I am new on this blog.
I am from Canada. I am going away on this cruise in February and will be visiting Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. I would like to buy an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Big Size (with a steel and Rubber band) while on one of these islands. Can anyone recommand 1st: and island and 2nd: a jeweler that carries Omega watches. Also, what price should expect to pay. Here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this particular brand/model runs at about 5000$ USD.
Many thanks for the replies and best regards,
Christian

In regards to Bearomega norg comments: “Fake Omegas can be easily proven by a professional but a real watch with some fake parts is almost impossible to prove. And yes it happens a lot. And no the red dot will not necessarily save you.”
How and when do fake parts make their way into genuine Omega’s, during servicing, before they reach the authorised dealer or….????
Thanks for any future comments.

my friend does have planet ocean chrono with black leather strap orange stitched. Even though he is not wearing very often. the joint part in between skin side and outer side of leather strap is looking really bad. He even can rub off kind of adhesive/leather. I do wonder if someone is having similiar problem.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:04 am
Love this blog. Some interesting ideas. I have a Seamaster PO 45.5 steel orange version bought in july 08 and I just can\’t stop loving it. I can give 2 major reasons why someone should buy this amazingly put together time piece.
At first I was concerned about temperature flactuation effects on the watch because I am a scientist and my work involves working in freezers with temperatures of down to -30C or -40C. In the manual it stated that this particular watch will be able to tolerate -50C. Therefore, I decided to wear it to work. It wasn\’t the hottest summer last year(08\’) in london but the actual temperature flactuation that my watch went through was from +26C (outside) down to -34C (inside freezer). This meant a 60C shift within a couple of seconds. To my amazement, the watch ONLY lost between 2-5 seconds in a WEEK!!! Whereas my TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic Tachymeter (£1800) lasted 2 weeks before it stopped working under the same conditions (apparent cause = metal expansion causing uneven aligment of mechanism shaft). Now I know it might not be the best comparison but what I am trying to say is the £2349 I spent on my PO was worth every penny. Quality of build and time keeping under severe conditions is immaculate.
Second reason would be the look of the watch. In my opinion the PO is an understated luxury/sport fusion watch for people that don\’t necessarily want to show off (rolex owners) but still want to make a moderate statement of elegancy. My father has a collection of rolexes from classical to modern however, I could never see myself wearing them after the PO experience.
Funnily enough it still draws attention whenever I wear it
Unfortunately, by reading some of the comments it looks like some of the watches talked about are fakes. DAMN THOSE EASTERN BUILT PIECES!!!
All the best to every OMEGA lover!!!

The problem with stopping happens when I am skiing and out in weather below 20F for 3-4 hours. I am not cold, but working, hands cool so wrist is cool and I think the watch face is exposed to external temp. The design specs on Planet Ocean say 30-140 F. So I am out side specs. Not comfortable in taking this watch on winter dives, or back country. I am thinking of switching to Rolex.
January 18th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Re: Mike,
I understand your point about the watch stopping if wrist is cold however, you said you ski therefore I would have thought while you doing exercise your overall body temperature should be above average which is more than enough to produce energy for watch to work.
So what I understood is that if the watch face is exposed it can stop the watch. Interesting because I am going skiing this month so I will be looking to see if my PO stops.
Thanks for the heads up and I will report back.

That is what I would have expected that I would be active. Body temp would have keep it warm enough. But when I am patroling and the temp. is less than 20F, with the layers I ski with, the watch stops. Other chronographs I have had never had this issue. These had a much higher profile. Only thing I can think of that it is an issue with the oil viscosity. Low temp. it stops the watch.
Please report on your findings.

just want to say after getting my p.o 2 weeks ago im in love ,this watch is mega for the money no wonder bond is always smileing,i got the black face red digits 6,9,12 anyway with the braclet which also is very nice ,i dont see the point in buying it with the rubber strap as the braclet costs more than the strap to purchase seperate …i will be very disapointed if mine starts giveing me some of the probs you lot have been haveing ,i got mine from the dealer so i no its a real omega p.o (is yours)????..i can handle my watch looseing the odd second here and there so long as its real and not running on some old battrey…..when i chose this watch i had a couple of grand more to spare than what i spent ,i tryed the rolex and the brietlings the omega seemed much more for the money ..very very VERY HAPPI OMEGA !!!!!!

Bought my Omega PO 45.5 Quantum Solace edition about 2 weeks ago. Was deliberating for quite some time before settling for this one and so far glad to say no complains, no regrets! (though it may be too early to say) Wanted to go for the PO with black face and dial with orange numerals but was bowled over when the sales guy showed me this one.. very unique face and feels very solid.
I have had a TAG Chrono for about 4 years and it broke down 3 times, stopped with no apparent reason as was told that the mechanism has to be changed, the entire watch mechanism!! only the outer shell is effectively left and I guess I was lucky this happen 1.5 yrs from purchase so still under warranty. No more TAG for me for sure..

Let me start by stating that I read this entire blog before pushing the button on my PO, 45 mm stainless. The information is good to read before you make a large investment on a watch. But let me say this, the thing is a work of art! It is absolutely beautiful and I haven’t been able to stop looking at it all weekend. I have always been a watch fan, but this is my first serious watch purchase, and probably my last. I can’t imagine wanting to wear anything else.
The comment I wanted to share on this blog is this. Several people seem to get freaked out by the size of the watch. My wrist is not monsterous by any means, 18 mm to be exact, although I am 6′4, 230 lbs. The watch looks perfect. So those of you freaking out about the size, guess what, it is big on purpose! Omega didn’t try to hide the fact that it is big and heavy. It is a watch worth being noticed. If you are big enough to wear it, you should be big enough to show it off. I was inches away from getting the 42 mm after reading reviews and talking to others. I know now I would have always been left wondering if I could have pulled off the bigger watch. Why would you get a small version of a big watch? If you are on the fence, go big brothers! You won’t regret it. As long as the lugs are not eclipsing your wrist and you aren’t 5′4″ 120 lbs, you will be fine.
As for the comments on the cold weather. The owners manual recommends not getting the watch in weather below freezing (32 f), so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t behave properly. Remember, it is designed to go in the water, not the freezer. Good luck to all and keep the information coming. This is a valuable tool.

Hi,
Looking to buy a PO asap, seen recently that Omega have increased their prices !
What kind of discount can i expect in the UK from an Authorised dealer ?
I’m also going to Florida in April, would it be cheaper for me to wait and buy the watch out there?
Cheers
February 8th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Will let all know what Omega does with this watch. I was informed that if the watch is in contact with skin, even in cold weather, should not drop below operating temp. if face is exposed. Anyone who does winter sports, not sitting in doors, should be concerned on this out come.
February 9th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I just bought the 45.5 mm with black dial. The list price was 3,650. I bought it from Tourneau and got 20% off the price. I got the watch for 2,900 dollars plus tax.
It is a great watch. I wear it everyday at work. Tourneau has a three year buckle to buckle protection plan. I have put small scratches on it while working and have already gone in for a free polish. I can go as often as I want for three years to have the scratches buffed out.

Just purchased an XL Planet Ocean and WOW! It is truly a classic timepiece in the Omega tradition and, in fact, is even better than my Sea Dweller. I would not trade this watch. It is ruggedly designed, beefy and simple yet beautifully sculpted. I used to feel somewhat showy wearing my Rolex SD so never felt quite comfortable with the impression that watch may have given. Not so with the Planet Ocean. To begin with, you don’t see the glut of people wearing this timepiece compared to the hordes you always see wearing Subs or ‘Dwellers. This watch stands out and is 100% masculine without the pretense of its competitor. You can’t go wrong with it.

Dear Omega lovers (or non-lovers),
I just came back from my ski holidays and as promised I wanted to report on my omega sm planet ocean 45.5 (orange bezel) behaviour in cold weather.
Now temperatures were from 3C to as low as -11C. I did find that my watch lost up to 9 seconds everyday on average however it did NOT stop completely which impressed me. So in reply to Mike (Jan 20th), yes the watch did lose few seconds but still kept going.
I do however agree with Mike C at the end of the day it is designed for diving.
Re Philip C:
Regarding the prices all (american or british) official dealers can be ‘haggled’ with when it comes to watches of this prestige especially in the current economical climate you could deffinitely get at least 20% off original price. My brother-in-law bought planet ocean 45.5 (blue bezel) from London (Earnest Jones) mid-January (after my recommendation) for £2050 (standard 2yr guarantee) when original price I think was £3100. He absolutely adores it!
Good luck and good health to all!
February 21st, 2009 at 1:28 am
Mike and Caad, the planet ocean movement is basically an ETA with a changed escapement that’s the coaxial part. What we need to understand is there are basically 3 types of ETA movements for each caliber produced. A true ETA produced by the swatch group, a generic ETA produced by a company other then ETA (usually in India) but with the consent, training and blueprints from ETA, and an ETA clone (usually China) this is a good fake. There is no way none to tell a true ETA and a generic ETA apart none. A high quality clone is very difficult to authenticate in fact at its highest end the only difference is in the pattern of the micro shavings under high magnification. Omega crystals, dials, bracelets can all be purchased from a network of repair shops. So do the math. Beware the gray market. As for the authorized watch dealer that begins with a T keep in mind they are the only major omega authorized dealer that also deals in trade in’s, used watch sales, and has a network by a different name that sells part. How big of a problem is this. The swiss watch industry in general is currently discussing the possibility of selling only through brand boutiques. A store with one watch and one id number can easily become a store with one id number and many watches. Hope it helps
thanks

I have had my PO for about 7 months and love it! Had to return the first one because it would die out while wearing it evenif I wound it in the morning. The dealer replaced it no questions asked. Not a single problem with the second watch.
March 14th, 2009 at 8:02 am
How do I properly revive my PO Olympic 45.5 (red Omega emblem, white Arabic numbers displaying 1-12, black rubber strap with white stitching) when it is completely out of power.
Shaking it for 5-minutes isn’t as effective as one would think (the watch will often run for a few minutes then stop), and manually winding the crown does not help at all.
I usually have to wear it for at least an hour or so to charge it.
Additionally, I own a Wolf watch winder and I have noticed that after a few days the watch will lose its charge.
I purchased the watch from an authorized dealer here in the states so I’m certain it is not a fake.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Scott

you should try winding the watch and see if this helps rather than shakeing it

Just recieved a call form Omega. They found that at low temps – lower than 32 F a seperation would occur on one of the shafts/jewel and the second hand would lock up the watch. They are repairing it and commented that they have not seen this type of failure before. Will see how it works this time around. Will need to wait until
next year for cold temp test.
Was also told that at temp ranges lower than spec it should have not effected the watch other than it may losse a few more secc/day.

I have had my PO almost 3 years now and in that time it has been back to omega (swatch) repairer`s 6 times, 5 times for stopping for no aparent reason but always at 5 past the hour and three times to eventually fix the loose bezel.
i wear it 24/7 only ever removing it for when i train in the gym I am employed as an indutrial firefighter so i work in all conditions and weather and the watch itself has only slight scratches on the bracelet and the face is still brilliantly shiny all in all I am happy
April 20th, 2009 at 2:50 am
Paul,
Just out of curiosity. If you had to have your watch serviced 5 times in the last three years for stopping for no aparent reason, how does that make you feel all in all happy?

just wanted to say after nearly a years deliberation, and frequently keeping an eye on the comments on this site, i went ahead last sunday and parted with my hard earned cash on a PO 45mm black. just wanted to make the following point, though i know its been made by other contributors, that the size is perfect. this was my one real hang up about buying the watch having tried it on a few times, but honestly if you give it 24 hours you feel like you’ve been wearing it all your life. chose the PO in preference to the breitling steelfish and rolex sub (also very nice watches) and can honestly say i absoutely love it.

I have just found this forum and very much enjoyed reading all the comments. I own a 45.5 PO chrono with the SS bracelet. It is a fantastic watch, not too sure how understated it is though – as some have suggested, but when you pay that much for a watch who cares.
I do have an issue with it that hasnt been mentioned. I have had it for about 1.5 years. When I set the chrono second hand to the same time as the normal second hand, the chrono hand gains about 10 seconds a day. I understand that this is basically not possible as they should be on the same movement. Anyhow the store said it could go back to Omega for a full service under warranty, so not really a big deal.
Id be interested to know if anyone else has seen or heard of this problem.
On a better note, this is a great watch, the weight is the big bonus for mine, I wanted a watch that was indestructable and think I pretty much have that. Its great when you take it off to show someone and they cant believe the weight. I also agree with some other readers about how flimsey other watches feel after this one, the band is especially robust and makes the one on a sub seem like a cheap imitation.
April 28th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
I have a 40mm Oris TT1 Divers and in terms of value for money and performance I think it is better than anything similar that Omega produce as a simple and reliable day to day watch. I have not had a single issue with it in over 4 years. I think it is fair to say that the 47mm Oris Carlos Coste Chronograph Limited Edition is a far superior watch to the 45.5 PO chrono with the SS bracelet. It is bigger, heavier, more robust and rated deeper. Even the Oris Divers Titan Chronograph would be a wiser option with the same features and almost half the price of the Omega. I’d go so far as to say that the extra few thousand you are paying is just for the name – but that’s fine if that’s of importance to you.
April 28th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Wristy, No doubt about it that oris are a good watch, I have one myself – an artelier skeleton, however I also have a mate who just binned an Oris Williams that was 2.5 years old, the crown fell out of it and it was totally rusted.
They also arent chrono certified and they dont seem to be very accurate, which is fine for mine as it is a dress watch, but it would drive you crazy if you were wearing it all the time
You are obviously not a sport minded individual and probably not that fit, as you dont have a need for a chrono on the watch. If you did you would realise that there arent any ORIS that are in the league of the PO Chrono. For starters its the only watch that you can use the chrono under deep water, which is a better option for diving than relying on the bezel.
Also I dont believe that the Oris Carlos Coste is heavier than the 45.5 PO chrono.
April 28th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Thanks for that Daryl. That’s a shame about your mate’s Oris Williams – maybe he hadn’t secured the crown properly after setting/winding it. It is a common mistake as I understand it and a user error as opposed to a fault with the watch.
The accuracy of my watch isn’t of great concern to me – it is as accurate as you need an automatic watch to be if you work in an office, unless of course on the weekend you are timing your Maserati round the race circuit etc.
Forgive me on the weight issue also. You are right, the Oris Carlos Coste Chronograph Limited Edition may not be as heavy as your PO – that’s probabaly because it is made of titanium as opposed to steel – therefore it is arguably more robust and stronger.
Personally I am quite happy with my simple TT1 Divers and feel that if I ever did an actual deep water diving the bezel option would serve its purpose fo my needs. Obviously, despite the fact that you say your Po is a dress watch you obviously do a fair amount of deep sea diving so I can therefore understand the benefits associated with being able to use the chrono under water.
Beyond 600 metres though the PO will be useless to you which is why I thought the better value Oris Carlos Coste Chronograph Limited Edition (rated at 1000 metres) might be a good option for you given your obvious deep water fitness pursuits.

I just stumbled accross this forum while investigating the price of omega watches.
I currently wear a festina 44mm chronograph SS with SS band. I am very happy with its size and the weight isnt too bad for such a large and complex watch. I have been told they are effectively the french eqivalent of the omega, and was pretty happy that they sponsored the tour de france.
Anyhow, I am thinking of getting a new watch as I like to keep the festina for good, given it is pretty rare and hard to get in Australia. Some of my mates have omegas and rate them, one even has an Oris, just like Wristy above but Im not keen on them as they clearly dont keep good time.
I am struggling to see why either brand cost so much though as my festina seems to set much more of a statement than either.
I dont really care what other people think but am interested in other views on the overall package of wearing an omega and if you get a lot of stares and looks for wearing one.
Im pretty involved in property deals and like to be one step ahead of the game, and it seems that every man and his dog is wearing POs these days, but it might just be me. Again given the rarety of the festina in this country I am keen to get something comparible.

Hello all,
Need some advice – Can anybody substantiate reports of questionable quality in service/repairs from approved Omega service centres in Europe? (esp France).
My Mother-in-law is French & wants to get a 1987 De Ville serviced. She has found blog on this subject which alleges that (due to the Swatch take-over), standards have fallen – She now wants to go through the service centre in Essex instead.
I own a SeaMaster and my wife has a Constellation – both need servicing in the next 12 mnoths, so this is of particualr interest; Any help very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I just received my new PO Quantum of Solace edition from a reputable dealer. It looks brand new, with its hang tags, protective stickers, etc. It also appears to be working fine. Upon closer inspection, however, I noticed that there is a rather visible gap between the Helium escape valve and the case, even if the valve is closed tight. This gap shows a little bit of the thread that the valve screws on to. This gap is only visible from the top though. The bottom does not show the gap at all. Is this normal for all 45.5 m. POs or did I receive a defective watch? This is my first experience with XL POs so I don’t know whether this is normal or not. My Seamaster 300 m does not show that gap at all, but I wonder if it’s due to its smaller size (41 m). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: gab in HE valve,
I cant see one on mine, did you get it cheap??
May 11th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Well, I got it with some discount but it’s authentic. I got all the paperwork, cards, boxes, and the 3-year warranty. Do you know if there’s a difference between the quality of authentic watches you get over the Internet vs. that of the authorized dealers? Thanks for your reply!

I must admit, I fell in love with a 45 mm PO chrono on January 3 and purchased from Ernest Jones in Bull Ring.
The watch stopped after 3 days, when I went to return it, the store said it had been worn and would not return my money (how else would I find out the watch was not working). After insisting the watch be returned to Omega and waiting over 5 months, I recieved a \"without prejudice\" full refund letter.
Was this just bad luck and worse retailer or is there something wrong with this watch.
God help me, I want to buy another one!!

I’m surprised to hear of the troubles people have had with the PO. I have one and it has been running about -1 second a day for a couple of months now. It’s never stopped at all, even leaving it in the box for two entire days after wearing it for three. Not to shabby I’d say. I’ve got a friend who just purchased one and his runs about the same. Fantastic watch and the look and weight are perfect for an individual with a bigger build.

i have a p.o 45.5mm orange bezel on a nato strap and it keeps excellent time, and the watch looks great and i haven’t had any problems out of it.

Does anyone knows the website http://www.authenticwatches.com?
Is it reliable? should I in general avoid buying from an online store?
Thanks a lot!

After months of thinking what watch to buy, I went to Birmingham bullring today hoping to buy PO 45.5, i noticed goldsmiths and ernest jones stoped selling PO, When i asked they said that omega stoped making them! All they had was old model seamasters which they trying to shift due to over suplus stock, i just wondering if omega’s finding to many problems with the PO and just recalled them all.

Hello, i would like to buy a watch, and i am stuck between planet ocean 42, and seamaster aqua terra 39, co axial.
Any + – points for each one? what would your favorite one be?
Thanks

I just purchased a PO chrono (my first automatic Omega.) A very beautiful watch, however I do have a few points of complaint with regard to my purchase.
Having paid so much for this little mechanical masterpiece, I find the instructional manual for proper use very inadequate. Specifically with respect to:
1. Appropriate winding instructions – The sales person said 5-10 winds a day if low power, a BLOG said 10 winds to start it up, another BLOG said 50 winds is the maximum and not to wind beyond the \"overwind click\". Overwind click? Don\’t recall reading anything about an \"overwind click\" in the manual. My present preference is not to wind it at all and just wear it all day, but would like to have a more concrete understanding of this aspect of the watch.
2. Stopwatch instructions – I like the look of the big second hand moving and the sales person told me that I could have the stop watch running constantly. However, I noticed that after 7 hours of constant stopwatch activity the watch starts losing time. Hence, I assume you can\’t have the stopwatch running constantly??
Other than that very happy with purchase.
June 19th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
If my PO runs out of power I’ll wind it 10-15 rotations. Once on your wrist and walking around, or just moving for a couple of hours, it should give you 30-40 hrs of life if not more.
I wouldn’t over wind any automatic/chronometer. 15-20 rotations is enough.
Enjoy your watch.

Great blog everyone. I am really enjoying the comments.
I am currently looking at purchasing a PO 45.5mm as a first time buyer of an Omega watch. My previous “expensive” timepiece is a Tag, which is going on 20 years of service without any problems.
My question is: Given the mechanics of an Automatic and some of the concerns raised in previous blogs, can I expect to get 20 or more years of service on an Omega PO? I would really like to think of this purchase as a keepsake, that I could pass on one day.
Thanks,
Jason.
July 1st, 2009 at 4:53 am
Jason- in my opinion you really can’t go wrong with the PO 45.5mm. i have only had mine for a few months so maybe i should reserve judgement for a little longer but the pleasure you get out of this watch is unbelievable. i’ve had numerous compliments on it from mates and strangers alike, timekeeping is good (i adjust it maybe once every month or so as it gains a tad), but to be honest if it didnt work i’d still wear it, it would show the right time twice a day and look great! of all purchases i’ve made this is the one i hummed and harred over the most- 2 grandish for a watch is a big deal to me and i too have a lovely Tag divers watch that had given me fully 18 years of impeccable service and i wasnt sure i could justify the purchase. But you know, you only live once and youve got to treat yourself sometimes…
longevity wise, i wouldnt have bought this watch if i hadnt been given the assurances of the jeweller that it was a great timepiece and built to last. i suppose with the co-axial movement “technology” being relatively new there’s no real bench mark though. I was told that a service would be required about every seven years. and theyve got a 3 year warranty so that is pretty reassuring in itself i reckon……
anyway, hope that helps- my final piece of advice to you, if you go for it get it from a reputable jewellers and look to get at least 15% discount on list, though im sure some people have got considerably more…
best of luck..

Just added an orange Hirsch Carbon and polished Hirsch deployment clasp on to my 45.5mm PO.
Looks the business and saved me about £200.00.

Rich, thanks for your comments. I’ll just finish shopping around some AD’s and make the purchase soon.
Cheers,

hi everyone, just picked up my new PO, love it!
I went with the 42mm and have a 8.5 inch wrist just thought it looked better. It totally looks beefy.
July 4th, 2009 at 11:10 am
This is a real mans watch, Ive had th PO 45.5mm black bezel with metal strap for a couple of years now, i only have a 8″ wrist but fits snug and would like to say it looks great- its amazing and feels so strong, i wear it everyday and only take it off to go in the sauna. The glass has still no marks due to great scratch resistant. I had the pleasure to wear rolex, tag and brietling over the years but this omega is by far the best watch i ever owned for reliability-looks and the build quality, for example the rolex feels weak the brietling feels not as well made and not as robust, but thats just my opinion, i must admit i do like the new rolex deepsea but again the strap is not a strong as the omega ocean. I dont think i would ever change this watch, its the comlete package, i can not understand people who write on this blog saying they have problems with the PO, just make sure you buy from Authorised dealer.
July 6th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Hi All,
All comments are appreciated and also enjoyed the read.
Dimi – I have both the Aqua terra and PO – one is elegant and slimmer, the other is a sports watch that is chunky and feels that way. So i am afraid i cannot be of help for which one to choose (obviously). I will say tha the PO is harder to keep clean as it more crevices and nooks than the AT which is clean with a quick wipe of the shirt or tissue.
Good luck to all and enjoy as you cant take it with you.
July 22nd, 2009 at 12:09 pm
Ive read your comments with great interest and just wanted to point something out about the PO.
They are great good quality watches (I have the 45mm with black rubber strap and also one with the SS strap).
One point I have noticed with Omega SS clasp on the SS strap is the it keeps springing open when worn. In order to prevent this you need to bend the two metal pieces of spring steel inwards (as may be seen on the clasp) in order that the clasp grips tightly and does not spring open.
I have no idea why Omega have such a design fault, in my opinion it is the only fault I have found with the watch other than the reflective coating on the outside of the glass which scratches very easily and I personally removed.
Hope this helps
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:47 pm
I’ve had my PO stainless steel strap for 4 years know, which come with the watch as standard and it never pops open ! think you may have brought a fake Rob who wrote the last comment or you may just be very unlucky you could spend 100k on a watch and still may have a problem the fact is omega will put it right if you take t AD and you have all paperwork.
July 25th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Rob I reckon that the bracelet extension (to allow the watch to be worn over a wetsuit) may not be properly closed. There is a lip on the extension which should be recessed behind the metal pins. Once this is properly recessed there should be no problem. I know this because it happened to me. Best of luck.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Rob, I have never had a problem with my PO SS clasp, futher and more interesting is your claim about the reflective coating on the glass, Ive had mine for 2 years and wear it everyday, I have managed to put a nick in the bezel (which is annoying) but the glass is like new, cant even imagine how you would go about removing the reflective coating, but am happy to be convinced, I agree with Jim and suspect that you may have purchased a fake, does it have the red dot on the back of the case, or more importantly the hologram near the seamonsters tail?
August 12th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
You guys have all spent a lot of money on a great watch.
I purchased a copy PO black SS back in Feb for £120, after a lot of time and hasle got watch, what a load of rubbish.
I complained to the company and in a nutshell got a grade AAA copy for the same price (retail £350) Well I tell you, (UNREAL), I have had the watch 5 months now loses about 1 sec a day, have compared with one of my account reps real watch, could not tell difference.
Last month had slight problem with clasp took to jeweller, who told me it would cost about half of the copies value, I told him it was a copy, he said “no way”, he asked if he could take back off, invetigating the movement he still insisted “no way” this is genuine, he then took the serial no. and contacted Omega, who told him “it’s a FAKE!
So guys for £125 I have a watch comparable to your £2000+ time pieces that you would not be able to tell difference
August 12th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
Gary,
I suspect you are just taking the piss, but if not…
firstly, try swimming in it, and if that works ok take it in a sauna a few times, i know omega doesnt recommend that for the PO, but the real ones are built to take that harsh environment and mine has been in there 2-3 times a week for the last 2 years with no issues!!!
Also a fake doesnt have a proper crystal, which means it will scratch, so after you have it for a bit longer than 5 months it will start to look crap and you will have to get another one.
Most importantly for mine, a major part of the fun of owning a decent piece is knowing that you have saved and achieved something in just having it, and consequently feel pretty good just putting it on the arm each day.
But each to his own, let the forum know how its going in a year or so after daily wear…
August 13th, 2009 at 10:27 am
Hi Darren
Honestly I am not taking the piss, I wish I had the money to spend that on a watch. I described to the company I bought it from as pure sex on the wrist.
I have no intention of going into a sauna because I cant stand the bloody things, and I have actually swam in it fresh & salt and showered everyday in a power shower. I also caught the watch on a brick wall at work, no marks on the crystal glass with the compulsary P/O blue tint, slight mark on case, as it is solid s/s polished out easy with very fine emery.
I will keep you guys informed on the progress off the Great Pretender!
If it only lasts a year I will have had the satisfaction and experience of wearing an almost PO on my wrist (the weight and size is gorgeous by the way it\’s the 45.5mm) and would even consider buying a genuine because I think the watch is a classic timepiece and knocks the spots of Rolex for class and design.
All the best mate, catch up with u later
Gary

Hello everyone! Just to say I am now the VERY proud owner of a 42mm PO black bezel with white numerals. Thanks to my lovely wife as we have been married 10 years. THANK YOU Helen!!! Bought it from Goldsmiths in Manchester. Got a nice 15% discount. Also ordered the rubber strap, for a change once in a while. Must say, I feel sorry for the guy’s who bought off internet. Would really recommend going to AD. To the guy’s who wounder how to kick start the watch from a stop. Was told to wind slowly 40 times. And when setting the date, to ensure that the hands are at the bottom of the watch. If they are not, this will not damage it, but when altering it with the hands above, you will notice the crown is a little stiffer when winding. I agree with the guy who said he couldn’t imagine wearing any other watch. It feel’s so good to wear and own such a piece!!! This is my first real watch… And what a watch this is!!!
Thanks for reading!

I got my Omega PO about a month ago. My PO are with black bezel and brown leather strap. This is a great watch and best i had ever owned. The clasp is great as compared to my another Omega Constellation. By far, this is the best watch i owned and really love it.

Hi all, i have had a PO with orange bezel for 3 months, and was given it for my 50th birthday, and it’s an absolute peach, i have had a Rolex GMT master for 15 years which was my only watch so wore it always, it’s scratched , with dings all over the place, but i get it serviced and it’s still going fine, but the PO is a different ball game, it’s so solid, and keeps time perfectly, +1 second a day? pretty good in my book, and it looks like i shall wear it all the time now, and put the rolex in the draw for a good well earned rest, as much as love the GMT the PO is a different class, i had considered another rolex, but there are too many copies and they don’t feel special anymore, besides Omega are a class of they’re own.
I love it, and i don’t mind the blue tint
September 19th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Hello again,
Well ive been wearing my PO for three years and two months..and guess what?
Yup it stopped working, gutted. Although its two months out of warranty I took it back to my dealer and he said he would appeal to Omega’s better nature.
So off it went last week. I’ll keep you all informed.
How many people have had the stopping issue?

Just got my first Omega. Planet ocean 45.5mm with black bezel and metal band. Great watch. Was thinking of getting a Rolex sub but could not justify the extra $2500. Even though the Omega is bigger and heavier it was more comfortable on the wrist that the Rolex. If your a real man don’t get the 42mm, the 45.5mm has a better resale value if you ever want to unload it. 45mm is not big. Look at Breitling, Panerai. Do not buy from online stores, they are not authorized Omega dealers. You will not get the Omega warranty but offered a BS warranty from the website. The planet ocean is a timeless watch that has earned the respect the submariner has.

Men, just wanted to give an update to all. Omega has stripped about 80% of their former authorized dealers in the US of the ability to sell the line. I found one of these in my area and got about a 45% discount off suggested retail on my new PO, 45.5 black/black/white numerals. Really liked the orange digits at first, but couldn’t pass up this deal, classic look for a watch that will last twenty+ yrs. Second Omega for me, had a Seamaster for 11yrs, never a problem. So be on the lookout for an AD who lost the line, Omega wouldn’t buy the inventory back from them, so deals are out there, go hunting! Best of luck to all and wear your Omega proudly, you earned it! Cheers, Bob

Hi Just bought a PO 45.5mm and absolutely love it. I only have a 6.5 inch wrist, so it looks quite big bit mot too big. I\\\’m a bit concerned by all the reliability problems that people seem to be having, which is making me a little nervous
Does anyone know if this particular model should have the little red dot seal on the back case? The Goldsmiths Jewellers where I bought it didn\\\’t even know about the red dots and assured me that it hadn\\\’t been opened. I have sent an email to Omega customere service so will await there response.
So far (1 week), it has been very accurate, in fact only losing 1 sec all week, so that\\\’s impressive so far. It may be that these watches prefer to be worn daily, which is what I do.

I work for a horology house that is a close rival of Omega (the one beginning with R) and I have read this blog regularly over the years and I have to say it is probably the most comprehensive and most informative blog regarding a specific watch model I have ever come across.
Now before you lay into me, I don’t own a Rolex, I own a PO ss in black with white arabic numerals.
One point I need to make is that, a PO is not comparable to a Submariner. It has a higher specification in that it can be used at greater depths. Thus it is comparable to a Sea Dweller. You can make your own deduction on whether that makes it a better watch but in my opinion it does.
Arguably, Rolex is a better company (only because they are an independent house) but I feel they don’t make better quality watches. Even though they use a slightly higher-grade steel. Compare the bracelets for example and my point is proven. The POs’ is far superior.
Re: The red dot. It is put there by the Omega factory in Bienne, and is sent out as new to the AD. When the AD receives a watch that is defective/damaged/malfunctioning, they return it to Omega. These watches are sent back to Bienne and repaired. A blue dot is then placed on the watch in place of the red dot. These blue dot watches are then sent out as new to the AD along with the red dot watches.
If you buy an Omega and need service/repairs and you take it to an authorized Omega repair place, they do not put any colour dots on the watch after they repair it. If they have to send it back to Bienne to repair it, it gets the blue dot and is sent back to the repair place and returned to the customer with the blue dot.
If the blue dot or red dot is no longer on the watch, it does not void the warranty. The dots are not meant to be permanent. They want to see the warranty card or the receipt. They don’t care about the presence or absence of the dots.
Re: Winding. This is a bug bare of mine. Friends of mine wind their automatic watches too. Automatic watches are NOT supposed to be wound. Automatic wind up watches are supposed to be wound, like a Panerai 8 Day. If you don’t wear you watch regularly, saving it for best etc, just give it a shake or wear it for a while and re-set the time. If you are scared buy a watch winder or wear it every day.
Re: Gary and his fake watch. Darren is right. Sort it out Gary! Work hard, buy a proper watch and enjoy it.
Re: Size. Who bloody cares, it’s how it makes you look and feel and at the end of the day it’s your money. It is by no means any less or more of a watch whichever size you go for.
I’ll be sure to post some comments if I have any problems with mine. I don’t think I will though.
Cheers,
Alex

I have just bought a PO 45.5mm Chronograph and find that it stops within one hour when I stop wearing it and the watch gets cold (by that I mean cool room temp of around 10-15c) As long as I wear it it functions perfectly and if I leave it on a warm surface while not being worn it also keeps going. Has anyone experienced this?
I have another 42mm PO and a Breitling SuperOcean, and none of these stop when they are not worn or cold.
November 5th, 2009 at 4:31 am
This si a fantastic blogg!!! I have both the PO 42mm and the PO Chrono 45.5mm. I just love them both… I do like the PO 45.5mm Chono but it feels too big for my wrist. Should I think that way? It is also really thick too 18mm. What does everyone think???
November 11th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Just got a PO 45.5 from an AD – been a huge Omega fan for years and stoked to finally own one..
Quick Q – When holding the watch near my head I can hear the self winding plate spinning quite clearly. Is that normal? I would have thought that it shouldn’t make a sound?
I’ve read on this blog that some can feel it moving just wondering if anyone can hear it moving??
November 12th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Hearing the movement is one of the good parts about having such a robust watch, I have the 45.5 chrono and if you give a good shake on your wrist you should be able to actually see it vibrating. All adds to the fun of such a cool watch.

Hi guys, I bought a perfect replica on my trip to china. Cost me like 40 US. It is perfectly accurate and wearing it for 1 year now. I will use my citizen diving watch when I go diving. My advice is to stop buy original watches if they are having so much problems. Maybe I should starting selling them.

Cheers for the info darren – Nice to know it’s all part of the package!

I HAVE HAD MY PLANET OCEAN OVER 12 MONTHS,
IT IS RUNNING PERFECT.
November 30th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Hi,
I’m slightly puzzled with the Tourneau thing. Are they authorized or not? Will Omega honor the guarantee or not? I fought for $4.5k on the 2210.50 (Seamaster PO) and I’m planning on buying …
Please let me know what the community thinks.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:00 am
Me again, the one that bought a PO from Goldsmiths back in October without the little red dot on the back and because of this, I was concerned about the warranty etc. I have finally got an answer from Omega and apparently, Goldsmiths sent it back to the Omega Service centre in Portsmouth back in August for some work, but still not able to find out what. The only reason I am not demanding that they swap it for a brand new out of the box new watch is that is almost second perfect over a period of just over a week. I do wear it every day so perhaps that is what keeps it so accurate and maybe it’s trip to the Service Center sorted out it’s timekeeping.
December 11th, 2009 at 7:21 am
I too have a problem with the red dot. I’ve purchased a Planet Ocean several months ago and I’ve noticed that the red dot has started to wear off. I do not know if this is a problem or if it’s going to affect my warranty, as I’m still waiting for an answer from Omega…
Apart from that, I’m very happy with my purchase. It’s an excellent timepiece and it keeps perfect time (-1 sec/day).
Has anybody experienced this as well?
December 17th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
As a watch collector for over 18 years I can shed some light on the Omega vs Rolex. I own them both and they are two different animals. What makes a watch better? What are you doing with it and after 100 meters of WR who cares? WR rating has become a sales ploy more than anything. Most diving watches are more than up to the task for anything kind of diving you could ever do pro/demo,etc… Just cause a company says their super new dive is rated to ###*** means nothing to its longevity, accuracy and quality. Omega is a solid watch I love my PO and its CoAxial movement. Its build quality is great but not as good as my Rolex Submariner in some ways. Twist the bezel of both and its “game over” Rolex oozes quality in fit and finish. It just feels like a more expensive watch and it is. Where the Omega shines is it gives a very very accurate and solid package at a much more affordable price point. It also has its own look and style and that is rare in today’s dive watches. Every other company has copied the all mighty Rolex Submariner in some way or design. Its the original and most respected dive watch “period”.
Now if a automatic watch is considered a piece of art then most art is determined by its value and most importantly its resale value. If it appreciates then subjectively its a better piece of art. Rolex is in its own league here. Omega doesnt come close to Rolex in resale and brand recognition. Thats just the way it is. It is the undeniable truth. My Orange PO is my every day watch and its a great investment in a automatic and will be a family heirloom some day. My Rolex’s will be a family heirloom and a great investment that will continue to appreciate long after I am dead and gone.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Well, like others on this blog, I have been an Omega fan for quite a while. I’ve owned several from the “bumper” to the 470 to the 490 to 70s, 80s and a few new ones, like the speedmaster and sea master professional.
I have to say the PO is a dissapointment to me. Unlike any other watch I have owned, Omega feels that winding the watch 40+ times, shaking it like a whip and then giving it some time to start is within the acceptable tolerances for the coaxial movement. The watch has been back with Omega twice with the same results. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi All
Interestingly I own two PO 45mm. One is a Thai knock off with a confirmed ETA movement and I have the Gen I bought from an AD. I love the fit and finish of the gen but for reliability and general dependability the rep is as good if not better . I had the movement serviced over a year ago and it runs comfortably withing COSC standards. I only go the copy initially because I wanted to know it I could get on with the bigger watch. Most likely I will keep the copy sell the gen after a service and buy a Panerai 111.
If only the PO was based on a less complex movement it would be a far better watch, the coaxial seems to have plenty of issues. If I pay £2K for something I expect it to be better than something 10% of its value(or perhaps I should say cost)

I can now report that my PO 45.5mm has been extremely accurate since I bought it back in mid October. I wear it every day only taking it off to sleep (bedroom is cold as I we do not heat it) and it has kept to -1 to +2 secs compared to my atomic clock regulated alarm clock so I don’t feel the need to alter it….flippin good I’d say !

I work for Rolex and have some comments about the thoughts and opinions made recently regarding the Omega Rolex debate.
The Submariner is a great watch that’s a given and probably the most sort after dive watches out there, heaven knows the bulk of our orders are for them particularly in the London market.
Luckily a watch’s quality is not measured by the turn of its bezel but the watch as an overall feel and package.
Feel the bracelet and the clasp of a PO compared to a Sub and you get a feel for build quality.
Omega’s are cheaper simply due toit being a larger company and stronger buying power thus lowering prices. Apparently the family behind omega (not Swatch group) want to bring the prices up to their Rolex counterparts so look out for incremental price increases.
With Rolex yes their movement and style is spot on but they have been playing it safe for so long now as Omega had. Now before all you Rolex Devotees with hologram stickers go all, “if its not broke don’t fix it.” If civilisation played it safe and never pushed the boundaries the industrial revolution would have never happened the internet would never have happened. So its great that Omega have had the balls to break the mold and push the Coaxial mov and restyle.
A PO is not comparable to a Sub it is comparable to a Sea Dweller simply because of the build spec and technical limitations of the watch.
Just because Omega’s are cheaper does not mean they are less exclusive, from my experience Rolex’s are very ubiquitous and far more common than Omega’s. And many with a few quid in the bank beeline for them.
I don’t know about you guys but I have never been one to follow the herd.

Hello…
My ant gave me an Omega watch but i cannot find out which exactly model it is. There is no serial number on the back side. Is that normal ??
The only thing that is written on is the following: De Ville AUTOMATIC CHRONOMETER and water resistant on the back side..
If there is someone on this blog that thinks he can help me to undercover the model of my watch please contact me on this email ceedman@hotmail.com i can send a photo….
Thank you all

Good morning from a chilly 27 degrees in Texas~
I have a 45mm PO and it seems a bit temperamental when it gets cold out and stops functioning. I\’m wondering if there\’s a simple solution or if there needs to be an adjustment made. The owner\’s manual says to avoid cold temps but sometimes this can\’t be avoided, especially in Texas where the weather tends to change on a dime. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How nice for Chris above to have a watch given to him by an ant. I don’t know how an ant can afford one let alone get into a jeweller’s and carry one away.
I have the P.O. with orange leather strap. As mentioned above, the watch is beautiful and it’s growing on me more and more. It does sound like there are some fakes about as there is no red dot anywhere on mine.
The only problem I have is that the strap discolours when immersed in water. I have thought about swapping the leather strap for the orange rubber one so that I don’t have to ever take the watch off again. Advice anyone?
P.S. I bought the watch from Goldsmiths in Sheffield in October this year and got the price down to £1800.00.

Hi. I have an Omega PO 45.5mm 007 Limited edition on rubber strap and have bought an aftermarkket Orange platci strap as well as a NATO strap. All of which look good.
The problem I have is that there are superficial scratches on the glareproof glass (outside) and I want to know if anyone can advise how to remove these rather than placinng it for service (£250) plus £150 for a new glass. It can be seen mainly at dawn and dusk and as a perfectionist, it bugs me. Any help/advice from you Omega fans would be greatly appreciated.

You can get the AR coating taken off of the outside of the face. I would do this if scratches have occurred.

Can I just ask what may be a silly question….is it OK to move the hands backwards when moving into different zones or should I wind it forwards until I get to the right hour then change the date? I am simply concerned that I will damage the mechanism if I move the hands backwards. Thanks.

Bought a PO Chrono. 45.5mm size from Goldsmiths just before Christmas. Gained 2 secs. in 10 days. then it stopped ! It kept on stopping over the next few days. I abandoned it , contacted Goldsmiths who offered a replacement. Picked up the replacement and all seemed fine. Went for lunch and it stopped. Winding it made no difference. The chrono function wouldnt go past about 20 seconds. In fairness , Goldsmiths were excellent , very apologetic and gave me a full refund with no question. I had thought this was a beautiful watch , a once in a lifetime treat for myself and it turned out to be a great disappointment. Obviously , in chrono form at least , not the pinacle of engineering excellence I had expected. Whatever Omega spend our money on it doesnt appear to be quality control ! Buy with caution and only from a good dealer.

Hi, had my Omeaga Planet Ocean (Orange Bezel one) watch stolen in London last Wednesday.
Is there a database of stolen watches where I can lodge the serial number so that on the off chance it turns up in a reputable palce again it will flash up as stolen?
Police not being too helpful at the moment.
Many thanks

Well I’m nearly 50 so I’m looking to get a orange PO chrono’ Yes I have only 7” wrists but now I have worn one in bond street I’m comfortable with that……. Price, well that’s another issue. I’m not scared of spending a few bob on a chronograph… my other watch is an IWC GST with a white face…. but I obviously want the best possible price without compromising on the quality….. The worlds on its A*se surly I can negotiate discount from a main dealer???? What a fantastic blog by the way…. However now it has to have a red dot…… I’m a little concerned about the reliability issues at least a AD will hold my hand through any bad patches… My IWC was superb until the main spring snapped in December… boy I wish I had warranty…. It has to be a PO over a Rolex there are so many fakes it has just devalued the brand……
February 18th, 2010 at 4:34 am
Well I parted with the money an am now the proud owner of an orange PO Chrono fantastic . I chose the AD route, Goldsmiths I reading (not the one in mall) I got a bit of discount ad was treated well it was a brilliant experience. You don’t get first class service like that on the web. I left with a great watch and that walm feeling of knowing that the watch was 100% and backed up by a highstreet name. Once again I would like to thank barry the manager for the service, one downer though never enough information in the manual.

Hello bought a seamaster po chrono very pleased with it got metal strap and rubber strap with orange stiching and deployment clasp , but then bought additional rubber strap with pin buckle but it did not fit my watch is there two different types of the plain black rubber sraps or do they just not fit the chronograph model?
March 4th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Hi All, Well I bought a PO back in Jan 2010, got to say best money I have ever spent on myself. Been wanting one for years, window shopping ect. Had a Omega Seamaster Pro, Automatic, traded it in and god am I impressed. Everything about it, the movement, the orange bezel, just the overall look of the watch. The wife just does not understand watches and cannot way up why I am foreever just staring at it all the time. Anyway great site, good read.
March 4th, 2010 at 11:37 pm
I finally own a PO. Ive long sought this watch but now I was able buy it. After reading the numerous complaints, I am beginning to worry. I know it comes with 3 years warranty but it’s the inconvenience….
For accuracy (it’s brand new, and it’s not that great at the moment; maybe needs to be broken in like a car)
March 1 – +9 sec
March 2 – +7 sec
March 3 – +7 sec
March 4 – +7 sec
So far it’s +30 sec total… since March 1. Not too COSC compliant.
March 10th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Well done Omega Wrist Watches !! You are clearly trying to drum up trade for your copy watches outlet judging by the English
Mike, I think you may find that there will be some settling in time for your new watch. In my opinion you should wear it from dawn ’til dusk or longer. I have noticed that the more I wear my PO, the more accurate it is. These miniature pieces of fine engineering will obviously be more accurate the more constant their temperature and the best way to maintain that is to wear it.
I still think that my PO is the best watch I’ve ever had.
March 10th, 2010 at 10:01 pm
Hi all,
I have been a collector of Omega watches for around 20 years now, and I have 5 modern Omega and 18 vintage Omega watches (50’s – 80’s, bumper autos, LED watch etc..) in my collection.
My first modern Omega was the mid sized bond seamaster automatic, then a secondhand large size bond seamaster automatic, then a large titanium/rose gold seamaster chronograph, then a constellation, then a 18k rose gold broadarrows chrono with blue lizard or aligator strap with gold buckle. I bought a oem broadarrows s.steel bracelet and sent it off to have it professionally gold plated with real gold because I couldn’t afford the 12k or more for a 18k rose gold one (several years ago)! Gold prices where about £200 per ounce back then. It looks just like the solid gold bracelet, but only at a fraction of the price. lol.
I have since been banned from buying anymore expensive omegas for at least a good few years by the wife.
I still walk past watch dealers windows and drool over the largest PO chrono many a times and would’ve snapped it up ages ago, if it was not for the wifes banning order.
But I’ve done something which I have never ever thought of doing, this was to buy a swiss replica of the large PO with steel bracelet for a few hundred quid.
I saw one of my customers wearing the PO and asked a few questions and he took it off and gave it to me so that I can see it better. To cut a story short, it was stunning and then he told me that it was fake! I didn’t believe him because with my experience in handling and owning Omega watches, It felt every bit just like the real thing. (I also had the chance to handle the real one in a store in London on a visit). Most stores don’t have the large chrono PO because customers get confused over the pricing when comparing the seamaster chrono to the PO. Its like over a grands difference and people ask questions.
I had a hell of a time explaining to the wife that I didn’t spend several thousands on a new PO.
Here are my reportings of this replica PO so that those of you out there can learn from my experience and not get conned by people passing them off as the genuine thing. These reps are so frighteningly real! Not only in looks, but also in timekeeping too!
Ok, it has all the engravings in the correct places, AR tinted glass on both sides, swiss 7750 movement (not asian), HE valve position in the correct place, the little illuminous 12 O’clock marker looks just right, no red dot, the weight is also very accurate on my scales before I took off a few links. Oh, the links are made just like the real thing and basically, if you aren’t familiar with Omegas, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference at all.
I even had my local watch maker friend, water proof the watch for me, and even he said it was the best replica that he had ever seen.
I actually love it! And keeps me satisfied until my banning order is over.
BUT i can offer one easy way for you guys to spot a fake, even if it was another brand. Even before you have to open the caseback or even phoning up to check the serial number.
Even the cards and certificates could be fake.
My PO was pretty clean under magnification which suggests it must have been made in a clean and high tech environment.
ok, all you need is just a magnifying glass or eye loupe handy with you.
Because no matter how good the replicas are, once under magnification, little tell tale blemishes, uneven paint finishes, and minute particles which are invisible to the eye, can be seen which are not present in genuine Omegas. These are dead giveaways that the watch you thought was real and was going to buy, a fake!
Please don’t ask me where I bought the replica Omega PO from, because I will not tell anyone nor will I be buying anymore.
I only got it as a one-off due to my ban.
I will always recommend buying the real thing because you can’t beat it!
Sorry for waffling on and on.
I hope this was of use to you all.

Hi all
Great blog, just been to Goldsmiths and offered a PO 45.5mm orange bezel for £1950. Views on whether this is a good deal would be welcome? Anyone care to express an opinion on whether to go for the orange or classic black? didnt think i would like the orange but quite liked it when i tried it on. Also i have small wrists but after trying the 42mm and 45.5mm think i prefer 45.5.
Thanks
March 20th, 2010 at 10:41 am
Hi Nick, I have small wrists (6.5″) and I had the same dilema on watch size. I went for the 45.5 in the end and don’t regret it. It doesn’t take long to get used to the size of it as I had a fairly small Oris before this one and really like the feel of the 45.5 now. The thing to do when removing links is to ensure that the clasp is central to the underside of your wrist, which for me meant that the 6 O’clock side is quite short compared to the 12 O’clock side but looks good on the wrist….hope that helps. I guess the bezel colour is a matter for personal taste. The more adventurous orange bezel may affect the resale value or desirability if that is something you’re considering for the future, but hey, it’s your watch, go for what turns you on.
I managed to get mine for £1900 but have heard people get down to £1800.
March 20th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Bryn sounds like sound advice and appreciate your response. I think i will go classic and stick with the black as worried i will regret the orange in the future plus im not sure it looks as good in a suit! Really appreciate the guidance on price as well. Did you remove the links yourself or did the AD sort this for you when you purchased? thanks again for your response. I will be purchasing next Saturday!
March 23rd, 2010 at 10:43 am
No problem Nick, I went throught the same dilemas myself and you’re right, black is probably more versatile in terms of looking good on all occasions. I had the links taken out at the dealer, but you can buy link presses easily on the internet if you fancy having a go, but probably best let the dealer do it if you’re not confident youself. Enjoy your watch when you get it Staurday. If you go for the 45.5mm it might feel big for a while, but you’ll get used to it. Look around you, some people have horrendously large and loose watches, it’s whatever floats your boat

Can anyone advise out there the value of a 2 year PO 42ml, orange bezel in great condition.
March 30th, 2010 at 5:10 am
hi guys, i,m the proud owner of a new PO 42 mm black bezel with rubber strap.
Can anyone please help with these two questions,
Firstly i need to purchase a watch winder as i will not be wearing my watch 24/7, do i need a winder that rotates clockwise and anti clockwise automatically, i,ve noticed that the cheaper versions have to be manually switched between the 2 rotations which will be annoying and i,m bound to forget and the watch will end up rotating in only one direction and may be damaged.
Secondally, the rubber strap has the tradition buckle with pre located slots,
I can wear the watch either as i nice tight fit which is perfect for about 3 days but then begins to make my wrist sore as its a little to tight, or i can adjust the strap by one slot looser which causes no soreness but the watch occassionally slides up and down which is annoying especially as its quite a heavy watch and you can feel it sliding, is there anyway of slighty stretching the strap or is this something i have to grin and bear, cheers guys great omega blog…

Go for it Ralph, I bought 42ml PO SS Orange back at xmas, been a fantastic buy, not issue’s what so ever. Talk about an eye catching watch mate, once you have it you’ll never look back.
April 5th, 2010 at 1:36 pm
I will be traveling to Belgium and France in the coming month. I am in the market for a 42mm PO SS Black. Can any one shed some light on if it would be cheaper for me to buy it in the states or in either of those two countries? Thanks for the advise and great blog!
April 6th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Hi all,
Really enjoyed reading this blog; a lot of interesting opinions and views.
I’ve currently got a Seamaster 300m Quartz, and after getting a decent bonus this year, fancy something a wee bit more rugged for my 40th in a couple of weeks.
I’ve decided to buy a 45.5mm PO SS Black (2200.50.00), but appear to have been caught out by the recent price rises (gone up to £2380 list from £2200).
The question I’ve got is, is it likely I could get an AD (preferably in and around Birmingham) to discount it to nearer to £2k?
An online “dealer” is offering the same watch at £1995, but despite their reassurances, I’m dubious about any internet / non-authorised dealers.
April 8th, 2010 at 4:28 am
After a long time of wanting one ( all my life ) I finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago to get one .. So happy I did, I went for the smaller bezel which I preferred and it really is a stunning watch I wear it all day for most activities.
I recently purchased in the cross over between the recent price rise. My final price which I negotiated was £1875. This was from Goldsmiths they had it at £2200 but it was increasing that Sunday to the higher price, the other shops in the area had already made the increase.
My advice if you have the cash in your hand, stick to your guns be polite but be firm about the price you will pay and dont be afraid to walk if your not 100% happy.
In terms of accuracy mine loses around a second per day – Im not 100% happy about that for the price I paid but it is within tolerance and I have read that a true reading cannot be made until post a month wear in.
So Ill keep an eye out.
April 9th, 2010 at 4:55 am
I just purchased an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Big Size (45.5mm) and must say I am extremely pleased with it. I made the purchase for around $4000 AUD which I’m fairly pleased with. I could have imported it from America and saved around four hundred dollars but I wasn’t willing to make that effort.
I just had a question about winding it. I was told to unscrew the crown and leave it in its unscrewed position, then wind it back and forth around thirty times, is that the right way to wind a self winding watch?
Thankyou.
April 9th, 2010 at 9:21 am
Wind bak and forth it not something I have heard. I wear mine daily and never had to wind (although I did a little in the outset ) clockwise 15 times was the recommendation to me. There is an amusing website about how to wind an omega if you search I’ll see I I can find it.
April 9th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Dauod, you should not need to wind it mate, just wear it daily and it will be fine, not had to wind mine yet but only had it 4mths so far.

I have just purchased a PO 45.5mm chronograph, black. I own several high end watches, and usually wear a black submariner as my daily wearer and alternate it with my speedmaster moonwatch and a special edition Breitling at weekends. I also have a Seamaster and a Panerai. I was considering a cartier Santos 100 XL chronograph but decided on the PO chrono instead. This is now my new favourite watch and the Sub has been relegated to my display case. However, to keep the movement going on the sub, i wear it when i go to bed, and put the PO back on in the morning!! The PO has a much better quality feel about it than my Sub, and the weightiness is as good as the Breitling….love it…top watch, if you are thinking of treating yourself to a new watch, and are torn between which to choose – i recommend the PO 45.5 chrono. You’re only here once – you work hard, do it.
April 18th, 2010 at 8:51 am
I am looking around to get myself a premium watch. I have several vintage seamasters but they are very dressy and like most vintage the rule is to handle them like little babies, well… Babies usually likes water, and vintage watches usually hates it , SO:
I tought: “I need a watch I can wear 24 hours, at work, at home, at holidays hunting, skiing, tours with snowmobile, under my car, under my girlfriend etc etc.. I need a watch that can stand out with me. I don’t need another babie..”
I am swedish and therefore, I live in Sweden. Here we have really beautiful summers with the “nordic light” and bla bla bla.. But we are also equipped with some heavy cold weather, and almost no natural light at all for like 4 months in a row. Its normal to have -20 degrees fahrenheit going on for months. This winter we had -35F for 2 weeks, with a peak at -42 F for about 5 days, and Ihave to work in that temperature. For me its not a problem; I love cold weather more than heat, but I guess PO do not? Am I forever tied to my Casio G ? Are all those 4k dollar watches just babies that like my vintages have to be cuddled all the time to work? For indoors use only?
Please enlight me.. Please advice me.. Omega or Casio? Who is best for active, heavy duty and snowy lifestyle?
April 20th, 2010 at 7:35 am
Hi Andy,
If I were you, I’d go for the Omega anyday.
But I’m not sure how much your cold weather would affect the time keeping though. But if accuracy is a priority for you, you could always keep a digital watch in your pocket maybe? hehehe.
So you have the best of both worlds.
April 20th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Geoff, thanks for replying! Well You got a point.. I have my cellphone in my pocket all the time.. Do you thnk the cold MIGHT cause permanent damage to a PO, or just slow it down temporarily? Maybe Im better off a with Bell&Ross.
April 20th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
I wouldn’t think it would, but don’t quote me on that.
I mean, its a chunky tough nut of a watch and has passed the chronometer tests and with it being on your warm wrist and maybe beneath a jacket sleeve, I would assume it will survive. lol
It may just affect the accuracy if anything.
Any watch in those cold conditions will be more or less the same in my opinion.
Just get it and enjoy it Andy.
Regards
Geoff

Hi Andy,
I live in Canada, and I do have issues with the PO’s inaccuracy due to rapid temperature change. My PO, 45.5mm, almost looks like the second hand gear is disengaged from the minute hand, it just goes around and around by itself, the minute hand doesn’t even move. I found this out about a month ago, when the weather starts to get better, lol. Got my PO in Feb, this year, never had a problem. I play rec hockey year round, and I have the luxury to get on ice at lunch time almost everyday. What I have figured, when the weather started to get warmer, no need of winter clothes anymore, the cover on top of the watch got less, so every time I go to the rink, the watch experience more temp change in a very short time. The average room temp it about 18C to 20C, and on ice the temp probably drop about 15C. Within the hour on average, the watch will lose about 5 to 10mins, experiment with it about a week, not doing it anymore. But as long as it is not directly expose to the rapid temp drop it has been ok. Hasn’t take it diving yet, not sure how it will perform under water temp change in the summer. I am absolute love this watch, and I do have phone with me just in case.
Not sure about long term, but fatigue is never good for metal, not sure what they used inside. Anyone has a older watch experiencing this type of issues?
I agree with Geoff, I’m sure all the mechanical watches will experience the same under the weather, if unprotected, but I’m sure we are all dress warm in the winter. If you like the watch, I say go get her.
Cheers!
Yan

yesteday ive purchased a 42 a po seamaster black w/ss bracelet , and it is really a handsome timepiece.. to put my mind at ease somewhat w/all the talk about repllica /fake omega i cheched watch against paperwork , magnify glass looking for specks in the facr for dust , then i emailed omega in swissaland w/all info , and it took them about18 hrs to respond to tell me that the watch was just recentlydeliverd to my authorized dealer in new york …………. its a shame we have to be on guard when people like us cant buy a watch , fearing it just might be a fake , well anyway it is a beautiful looking timepiece and hope all future watch buyers all the joy when we buy these beautiful things , because we work hard for our family and our money and we deserve our little pleasure in life sorry to babble

I brought 3 weeks ago a PO rubber strap. I used it in swimming pool for about one week. Likely not longer than in total 3-4 hours. Plus in the sea. I noticed the paint on the side of the orange rubber strap to slightly disappear/break off. Is this a common problem ? I am slightly disappointend. It is an original Watch

Got my Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph Watch (model 2210.51.00) in April 2009 and its now just gone back to the repairer for the second time and for exactly the same reasons.
First, it starts to lose time. Then it randomly stops. Finally, it completely stops.
I love the watch but it has been faulty for more time than it has been working!!
Each time it has to be sent away by my local dealer and I’ll again be without the watch for around 2 months!
I honestly expected better from what is supposed to be a quality watch. Currently wishing I’d gone with either a Rolex or Breitling.

Hi all, has anyone got any tips on getting scratches out of the bezel, got a 42ml PO with the orange bezel, but somehow managed to put a small scratch on it, just wondered if anyone has any tips.

Just bought a 42mm PO orange bezel chrono from a local AD, DOA at this point. I followed the book instructions and the normal auto startup techniques, nothing. Back to store, I guess. Not impressed, at least my Tag and EB worked and still are. Sigh…

I purchased a OMEGA Olympic Sports watch with leather strap in July 2009.
I ONLY wear this watch to work (AIR con office) and for leaisure.
Last month (April 2010) the leather strap cracked in 2 places and looks close to doing the same in others.
I took the watch to the service center and was told this was normal wear and tear. Which I find unbelievable, as I have leather sofa, shoes, belts, car seats and ALL wear well. I have even returned faulty soccer boots before and had them replaced after 8 month use.
I contacted OMEGA Switzerland and they said QUOTE
“In spite of the fact that the life expectancy of leather (as an organic material) is limited in time (sweat, wear and tear etc.) a leather strap should last for a period of about 6 months, without alteration of its aesthetic look.”
This I just cannot accept 6 months, for a sports watch with allowable depth of 100m and stop watch, and I cannot even buy a replacement stainless steel band for this watch.
So I do not recommend anyone to purchase a OMEGA watch with a leather strap!!!!
The thought of paying USD350 – 400 every 9/10 months does not sit well with me so all I can do is stuff the bloody thing in the safe and wear my old Tissot which is 7 years old.
A VERY disgruntled OMEGA owner.

Mark can you try a rubber strap

Hi guys,
Regarding the operational temp ranges of your PO’s there is an interesting post from a scientist on Jan 15th 2009. He’s watch underwent some huge fluctuations and stayed relatively accurate. Not sure if he contributes here anymore but i’d be interested to see if its still working.
Markie mark,
Don’t quote me on this but i think that the special edition Olympic watches were all leather and have different sized connection for the bracelets than the none limited ones.
I think its terrible that Omega say 6 months for lifespan of a leather strap. Imaging what it would have looked like if you dove in saltwater every day in it…
If I were you I’d take it to a dealer and ask them to try and fit a ss bracelets just to check what Omega says is true.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck!
Alex

Markie mark, something seriously wrong with that strap mate and the Omega response, I would follow that up again, you buy a watch for a few pound with a leather strap that last’s for years.
Ive a 42ml, orange bezel with SS, dont think you can go far wrong with the SS to be honest. Overall gains a couple of secs a day which i can live with, best looking watch on the market.

Yep they offered me a 20% discount for the watch strap which makes it S$325 +GST.
Now why would I wish to buy a strap at this price that will fail in 9 months.
Even the watch technician said it was normal wear and tear.
I have now suggested I will take it to the small claims court, as being a sports watch it is NOT fit for purpose having a leather strap and NO option to change to stainless steel.
Oh well lets see what happens

Need some advise, I am torn between a PO, 42mm, Orange Bezel and a Rolex Sub 40mm, Date… whats your thoughts?
May 24th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
I need some advice.
I have about €2,500 to spend on a watch and I have narrowed down my decision to two options. The Omega PO, or the Sinn 756 Tegimented.
I prefer the look of the Omega PO, but am concerned about scratching. The great advantage of the Sinn is that it is incredibly scratch resistant.
Any of you have any comments on the durability of the Omega PO?
Any advice would be greatzly appreciated.

Hi, Guys!
Great forum, thanks for all the info. I’ve purchased a 45mm PO with automatic movement, but don’t wear it too often. It’s hard to justify when and how much the watch should be wound. Can anyone suggest how often and how many rounds should be done to keep the watch running good? (I’, only wearing it once a week…)
May 25th, 2010 at 12:53 am
Diesel,
Automatic watches shouldn’t be wound. They charge from the kinetic movement of you wrist. I recommend you buy a watchwinder, you can pick them up on ebay pretty cheap, this will keep the watch ‘charged’ when not in use. It rotates the watch as if it were on your wrist when not in use.
Hope this helps.

Well folks they finally came back with a satisfactory offer.
Either a replacement leather strap or a Stainless steel strap for 50% discount.
I will go for the stainless steel as I fear a similar fate in 9 months time with a new leather strap.
Regards
Mark

Hi, I have a planet ocean. It’s actually the second one, the first having been replaced after it stopped dead! The replacement is currently having warrantee work as it kept loosing time!
I’ve always considered myself an Omega man but i have to say that my datejust 2 keeps better time!
After coming across this forum, I find myself wondering if there is a quality issue on the PO? If that is the case, it’s not going to be very good for the long term ownership of these timepieces.

Hi! Geoff and Yan, thanks for reply.
WELL well well.. Went to a shop (AD) and had a look at the PO. Both the chrono and the \"ordinary\". My biggest concern is still the temp.range, and after I read Yani´s reply.. Looses several minutes/hour at the icerink (btw rink temp at +18-20C?!.. LUCKY you
) I,m in real doubt… And reading about the cracked strap and Swatch groups way to handle that and answer that its normal?!?! LEATHERSTRAPS worn out after 9 month… No no no no no no.. My advise: Buy a Hirsch strap instead.

Hello,
I’m interested in information on this watch, “Glaskugel Kristall Präzision”, pls see attached pictures.
It’s a slightly compressed globe with diameters 6.9 transverse by 6.3 cm sagittal. It weighs app 600 g, casing seems to be brass. Face and back is magnifying glass. At the perimeter of the face it says “Glaskugel Kristall Präzision Model” and on the back it says “Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe “GUB” Glashutte SA Made in GDR “VEB”". The work is stamped 142146 and 3602. Additionally the letters RU may be discerned.
Does anybody have any information on this??
Thank you very much,
Soren Sondergaard

I have the PO XL in black on black. I’ve owned a few Swiss watches in my time and I’ve never known any leather strap to last more than a year max without needing replacement. I’ve a number of straps for my PO, the black rubber being my favourite which I’m hoping to get 18 months or more out of.
The thing that gets me about the Swiss watches is the cost and regularity of repairs and service. My PO stopped again just yesterday; I’ll drop it in for another service this week and I’ll miss it when it’s away.
Anybody buying a precision instrument should be fully aware of upkeep costs, it’s like buying a Ferrari or McLaren – they’re serious instruments, highly precise and subject to constant maintenance to give their best performance.

Has anyone noticed that when they adjust the time on PO that the winder has some play in it. What I mean is, when I unscrew and pull the winder out to move the hands and set the time, it doesn’t appear to move the watch hands tightly, i.e. I can move the winder a little each way before the hands respond. Any comments or info would be appreciated. Thanks

Bought the PO 45.5 SS Chrono in Athens on holiday last month from an authorised dealer (listed on official website). 3 weeks later the watch stopped, kept losing time even when worn and always stopped when idle.
It’s at the workshop as we speak (will take 3 weeks before returned) and I’ll post the findings once known. Wish me luck….very unhappy.

Have a 2 year old PO. In April, the screw in crown refused to screw i. Returned to Omega for repair. Returned 8 weeks later repaired OK apparently..BUT only a quarter turn to screw in the crown! Queried this with Omega who immediately admitted a fault and asked for it to be sent back. Sent it yesterday…. wil advise as situation progresses. Anyone else had crown problems?

The property of today’s society have changed long ago, people wearing the watch is to promote the identity and status. Because most of the top luxury watch brands have followed the principle of mass production of scarce, their price before they have been expensive watch is amazing. As a result, we almost have a consensus in recent years, many watch is ridiculously overpriced, but most of the watch on its price, the reason why the watch is always listening to the mainland more expensive.

I`m about to buy a 42mm orange bezel PO, I`ve been looking at them since traveling through Hong Kong airport. Yesterday I tried one on, and I`m hooked. So having read through previous posts about the price hike and trying to get a better deal than £2380, they have come back to me with a 10% discount. Should I accept the £2142 offer or continue in search of a better deal? The problem is I dont know how much longer I can live without one now.

Mate just buy it, if you like it as much as I do then just get it, they look a masterpiece on the wrist, worth every penny, mine has kept time spot on, no issues since buying in Jan 2010.

Thanks for the reply, Fergie, yeah next week, I should have it on my wrist, so I will check for the accuracy and report back.
