Thanks for the update Joe, know what you are saying about feeling light and tinny. The PO certainly does have a presence about it. Sticking with the PO.

Hi Ralph, Happy New Year to you! Did you go for the Omega in the end?

I looked at a Tag Monaco before I got my PO but after doing a little homework and finding out that Tag don’t actually make their own movements, they do for one or two models now, I couldn't live with myself knowing I'd paid all that money and it wasn't a true in-house timepiece. That would be like buying a Ferrari and finding out it was powered by a ford.

Pete I know what you mean about a Sub’s. I think it’s the whiteness of the stainless steel used against the jet black. It’s a different grade steel than the PO uses.

Personally I don’t like Rolexes. I find them very ubiquitous and ostentatious. Their owners, not all of them of course, tend to be a certain type of person- some of my friends included in this catagory.

I tried a Sub on when I bought my PO to see what all the fuss was about and it felt very tinny, compared to the PO the bracelet and clasp were nowhere near as solid, it was light and they are 39mm and after trying on the PO the smaller watch just didn’t have the presence.

The gentleman who sold me my PO openly told me that the PO’s co-axial movement is one of the most advanced movements on the market for the money. He said watches with this kind of movement tend to retail for circa £10k+. Rolex have not advanced their movements for decades and year on year increase their price when they bring out another colour.

Like the liquid metal technology, Omega bore the price of the co-axial movement initially and now its true price is being reflected in the steady increase hence this year’s PO is retailing for £1k more.

I was in an Omega Boutique at the weekend in Harrods, their fine watch room has a great sale in January if your ever in London, there was some lovely Baume & Mercier’s Ralph, and the Omega Specialist (as they are called on their name badges) advised me that the difference between this year’s PO and the original is simply the ceramic besal (not liquid metal) and the glass back and that’s it.

Personally I love the hippocampus on the back of the original, it’s a work of art and I’m not too impressed with the glass back. Also the clasp is different. Instead of having Omega Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean offset to one side, it simply says Omega in big letters right in the middle of the clasp- which is slightly smaller too.

I was in an Omega boutique at the weekend inquiring about a black leather alligator strap that integrates to meet the watch case (I have a 42mm black s/s PO with black besel).

The sales advisor quoted two prices, one for the leather strap and another for the buckle. In total its £375 for a leather strap for anyone who's interested.

I'm not sure to go for it or buy a vintage 1960's Seamaster 30 or 600 for elegant formal evening wear......?

I know that the leather will be good quality but every leather strap watch I've had has ended up stretching, which considering the weight of the PO's will happen in a year or two tops, and more annoyingly smelling!

I went to my local jewler to see if he can take out scratches and polish my s/s bracelet which came out great and told him my next omega i want is the 2208.50.00 , he told me he had a mint used 2218.50.00 which is chromogragh / meter . ok great when he showed it to me i didnt like thr way it looked to much glare in the crystal but i brought it , then went home , did my homework , and to my conclusion , i felt it was a replica, so i returned it , of course in a nice way ..... 2 days later he called me and said yes it was a fake !!! He had purchased the watch from omega for a customer , then this person , 3 months later brings it back to resell it , crying about hard times , and w/out checking , brought it back feeling he new the watch , and sometime later , I walk in and buy it . so this guy buys the watch from a online source problably Replica.com makes the switch and walla score !!! I did get my $$$ back , he shows my this junk w/back off , and the inside was stamped w/Omega signatures movement and all >>> BUT with the wrong steel , he said his omega guy said you can tell by the grains of the steel , made in China , so there you have it my friends , its back to purchaseing a new one like beforetake care

I own a PO and Rolex sub, the PO keeps better time! anyone thinking of buying one of these watches should go for the original, £1000 less and I got £550 off the price of mine, making it £1550 cheaper!

dont know why Omega put a glass back on the new ones, the back of an Omega is part of its appeal and fame.

Anyway, I love this watch, and with the new ones so expensive it can only drive the second hand price up when/if you come to cash in or upgrade in the future, much like a Rolex
